WHAT IS LASER BACTERIAL REDUCTION?
Our hygienists use the laser to attack periodontal inflammation at the microscopic level of infection. The power of the focused light destroys otherwise inaccessible bacterial colonies while simultaneously creating an ideal environment for healing.

Treating periodontal disease by eliminating infection and its accompanying inflammation will help:
• Reduce or eliminate bacteremia
• Kill potential periodontal infections before they cause loss of attachment
• Boost the immune system
• Reduce the severity of other disease processes
• Improve overall health

BAD NEWS AND GOOD NEWS

Did you know that periodontal disease affects approximately 80% of adults? As shocking as that statistic is, periodontal disease continues to be a growing epidemic in our society. Periodontal disease is gum and bone infection caused by plaque biofilm and inflammation. Bacteria that remain undisturbed produces this biofilm that begins the inflammatory process. Over the last few years improved techniques have been developed to better eliminate this irritant and our office is keeping up!

WHAT TO EXPECT

During your routine hygiene appointment, the use of soft tissue diode lasers can do much more to enhance your gum health than traditional scaling and root planning can do alone. After cleaning the hard tooth surfaces, the laser is used to eliminate the bacteria under the collar of the gum.

Happy anniversary Dr. Selena Chow!

Dr. Selena Chow joined our team in October 2015. Selena graduated from UBC dental school and is trained as a general Dentist.

Selena is a natural fit for the Steveston Smiles team. She is a caring compassionate person who treats people with respect and kindness.

Selena is a certified Invisalign, Solea and nitrous oxide sedation treatment provider. She excels at fillings, crown and bridge, extractions and seeing the children of our practice.

Selena loves to cook, sew and drink coffee.
