Dad was concerned about his 9 yr old daughter's rotated front tooth. Whenever I see this picture, I always suspect that maybe something is preventing the tooth from being straight. In this case, a radiograph showed clearly a mesiodens that is impacted and inverted, causing the front permanent tooth to rotate. (This mesiodens is positioned the exact opposite way that the previous case).
It will be surgically removed in the near future.

Mom and dad were very intrigued about the new permanent tooth coming into the mouth of their 5.5 yr old son. Imagine their surprise when they were told it was an extra tooth positioned in between the two front teeth (thus called mesiodens).
This mesiodens is quite small; it will likely continue to erupt. When the mesiodens has erupted past its widest spot, it will be extracted easily. Attempting to extract it now would require surgically opening the gums to dig out the tooth, which, if possible, we like to avoid. :)

We ended the year working hard. My last patient of 2014 was a dental emergency. He was hit, by his little brother, with a little toy hockey stick while playing in the basement of their house.
We couldn't let him start 2015 with a broken tooth, so we fixed him up and ended our year on a happy note! :)
