Between practices, games, tournaments and driving everyone where they need to be, there’s a lot for families to keep track of.

Here’s one more thing worth checking before the season gets into full swing: does your athlete’s mouthguard still fit?

Kids grow and teeth change, which means last season’s mouthguard may not fit the way it used to. A properly fitted mouthguard can help protect teeth and the mouth during falls, collisions or unexpected contact.

Clearview Market Dental Care offers athletic mouthwear to help protect those smiles while they’re out there giving it their all.

And just like that… they’re back!

Happy first week back to school to Red Deer students, families, teachers and school staff.

As everyone settles into new schedules, this is a good week to bring back the little routines that tend to disappear during summer: consistent bedtimes, packed lunches and, yes, brushing before you rush out the door in the morning.

It’s also a great time to book those routine dental checkups before the family calendar fills up with school, sports and activities.

Here’s to a great school year and lots of healthy smiles along the way.

Tooth Tip Tuesday 🦷

A new school year is the perfect time for a new toothbrush routine.

Take a look at your family’s toothbrushes tonight. Bristles looking frayed or worn? Time for a replacement.

While you’re at it, get everyone back into the habit of brushing twice a day and cleaning between their teeth daily. Linking brushing to consistent morning and bedtime routines can make it much easier to remember once school gets busy.

Small habits add up to healthier smiles.

We’re a day late for National Tooth Fairy Day, but in our defence, she had a VERY busy night.

Losing a tooth is a pretty big deal when you’re little. There’s the wiggle, the excitement, the careful placement under the pillow and, of course, the important question: what’s the Tooth Fairy paying these days?

While the Tooth Fairy handles overnight collections, we’ll keep looking after those growing smiles here at Clearview Market Dental Care.

We have to know: what’s the going rate for a lost tooth in your house?

How long does it take for a cavity to form? Longer than you might think.

Cavities don’t develop overnight. Tooth decay is a gradual process that can take months or even years to progress to the point where a filling is needed.

In the early stages, your enamel is losing and regaining minerals throughout the day. Saliva helps neutralize acids and return minerals to your enamel, giving very early damage a chance to repair.

But when mineral loss happens more often than repair, the enamel gradually weakens and a cavity can develop.

The good news? When tooth decay is caught early enough, fluoride treatments, improved oral hygiene and dietary changes may help strengthen the enamel before a permanent cavity forms.

Scheduling regular dental exams gives your dental team an opportunity to spot those early changes before they become bigger problems.

A routine dental exam is about much more than checking for cavities.

Every visit gives your dental team an opportunity to monitor your overall oral health, examine existing fillings and restorations, assess your gums, evaluate your bite and identify small changes before they become larger concerns.

Many dental conditions develop gradually and may not cause pain until they're more advanced. Regular exams allow us to detect these changes early, helping you maintain a healthy smile while often reducing the need for more extensive treatment.

Routine dental care isn't just about treating problems, it's about helping prevent them.

Baby teeth may be temporary, but the role they play in your child's development is anything but.

Healthy baby teeth help children chew comfortably, develop clear speech and hold the space needed for their permanent teeth to grow into the right position. When a baby tooth is lost too early due to decay or injury, it can sometimes affect how adult teeth come in later.

That's why caring for baby teeth from an early age is so important. Regular dental checkups, good brushing habits and preventive care all help build the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Whether your child is getting their very first tooth or getting ready to head back to school, we're here to support every stage of their oral health journey.

Tooth Tip Tuesday 🦷

Brushing harder doesn’t mean brushing better.

Using too much pressure can be tough on your gums and tooth enamel. Instead, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle, controlled movements to clean your teeth thoroughly without overdoing it.

A good rule of thumb? Let the toothbrush bristles do the work. Good technique and consistency matter far more than muscle.

For many people, it's not the procedure they're worried about. It's how they'll feel while it's happening.

Feeling anxious in the dental chair is more common than you might think, which is why we believe great dental care goes beyond healthy teeth. It means taking the time to listen, communicating every step of the way and creating an environment where you feel comfortable and in control.

Whether you're coming in for a filling or a routine appointment, our goal is simple: to help you leave thinking, "That wasn't nearly as stressful as I expected."

Every member of our team works together to make your experience as calm, comfortable and positive as possible because how you feel matters just as much as the care you receive.
