Understanding Your Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Coverage

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is designed to provide access to essential oral health care for residents who do not have existing dental coverage or workplace benefits. Under the plan, one annual preventive visit—including a cleaning, polish, fluoride treatment, and recall exam—is subsidized per benefit year.

Men are more likely than women to experience periodontal disease, and it may also impact other areas of men's health.

Studies have shown that prostate health, cardiovascular disease, impotence, and even cancer may be associated with a man’s periodontal health.

That’s why it’s especially important that men come in for hygiene visits twice a year and monitor potential symptoms of periodontal disease, including swollen or tender gums and bleeding while brushing.

Chewing gum after a meal stimulates saliva flow, which can wash away food particles, neutralize decay-causing acids produced by bacteria, and strengthen enamel. Look for gum that contains non-cavity causing sweeteners such as xylitol or aspartame. And remember, chewing gum isn’t a substitute for regular brushing and flossing!
