What Does A Dental Hygienist Do?
Dental hygienist jobs involve preventive work. They evaluate the patients’ dental health and focus on identifying and treating any gum disease. Dental hygienists train patients on how to take care of teeth and gums by removing plaque and tartar.

Apart from helping their patients to take care of their dental health, hygienists also offer valuable advice on how to maintain a healthy diet. So, patients can use the instructions received to prevent tooth decay and maintain a healthy-looking smile.

As each patient is different, the dental team at Maple Leaf Dentistry is determined to tailor the dental treatment to our patients’ needs and ensure that they keep healthy gums and teeth.
Cleaning your teeth is also called scaling. Hygienists also can polish your teeth, apply fluoride and in some cases sealants. They also are trained in taking x-rays and impressions.
While a dental hygienist may note an area of observation to the Dentist, it is the Dentist who solely diagnoses any concerns and creates the treatment plan.

Have you lost a tooth?
If you are a child, you are excited when you lose a tooth, as you think of the tooth fairy, and know another will grow in.
For an adult, it’s different. Losing a tooth can cause an altered smile, both aesthetically and from the resulting bone loss that supported the teeth.
At Maple Leaf Dentistry, we have several options to replace a lost tooth. Implants are the most permanent options. We also are trained in providing dentures and dental bridge work.
Please call our office at 705-748-2454 to discuss your missing tooth options.

Have you ever had popcorn stuck in your teeth? Here’s how to safely remove a popcorn hull from your teeth and gums
The next time you are faced with the aggravating experience of a popcorn hull burying itself in your gums, forget hurting yourself with a toothpick. You risk shoving it further into your gums. Instead, try the following steps to remove it before it becomes too swollen and sore:
Floss up and down between your teeth and then press hard against the side with the popcorn to loosen it as you floss.
Swish with warm saltwater to help relieve discomfort and see if it will dislodge.
Knot a piece of floss to add extra bulk and run it through your teeth where the hull is trapped.

When to See Us
If you are unable to remove the popcorn hull or are suspicious you may have cracked a tooth, make an appointment with us. We can offer a thorough inspection without further damaging your gums.
