"My Grandma Pearl spent her last six years in a nursing home, before mobile oral hygiene services were available," says Leilani Borne, founder and CEO of Pearly Whites Mobile Dental Hygiene Services. "I named my company after my grandmother, and I'm so glad to be able to provide oral hygiene services when and where they're needed, to benefit many people's loved ones."

Over a thousand years ago, the Maya weren't just decorating their teeth—they were solving a problem we still grapple with today. They carved jade and gemstones into precise inlays, then sealed them with a plant-based cement containing over 150 organic compounds: antimicrobial pine resin, mint oils, Salvia extracts. The formula was so carefully engineered that fewer than 4 percent of procedures ever penetrated the nerve.

What's truly staggering is that these weren't purely cosmetic. Hidden molar inlays functioned as actual fillings, treating toothaches with the same sophistication a modern dentist might employ. Some of these inlays remain intact today, still protecting teeth across centuries.

The Maya understood something we're only now rediscovering: that beauty and function can be one and the same. Their dentists were chemists, artists, and healers all at once.

That’s crazy! 🤯 this toothbrush might have a better camera than my phone lol.
