I'm not a frequent poster but I think the present situation demands an update. Myself and all my staff are currently healthy, although from what I read that may not necessarily indicate we are free of covid 19 but it is a good sign regardless. I did not attend the Pacific Dental Conference, but three of my staff did on days that did not overlap with the original known infected dentist. We were originally told there was minimal risk to attendees (who did not interact with the infected individual), however yesterday that position was changed to recommended self isolation until March 22. After that we are strongly advised to only treat dental emergencies, with the condition that the risk of infection for us, and the patient, is deemed to be low. I am expecting more guidelines soon. Like many of our patients, our staff has family considerations. I have a young family and extended family who are within the highest risk categories. I have provided my cell phone number on the office answering service and will be available even when the office is closed. My aim is to provide emergency coverage for my patients when possible until the dental college changes their position. As per recommendations, drop in appointments are not available as we are to pre screen via phone or other means first. I think it is fair to say this is an extremely difficult and scary time for us all. I look forward to seeing all of my patients again and talking about how we all managed. My son Liam is going to shoot the corona virus so hopefully this will be over soon!!
