Brazil is the only country currently known to have a national federal law requiring every newborn in hospitals and maternity facilities to receive a standardized tongue-tie (lingual frenulum) evaluation before discharge.
Enacted in 2014, Brazil's "Tongue-Tie Test" (Teste da Linguinha) law was designed to promote early identification of tongue-ties that may affect feeding and oral function. While many countries recommend evaluating infants with breastfeeding difficulties, Brazil stands apart with a nationwide legal requirement for universal newborn screening.
