Phase 1 Ph-riday

While most orthodontic treatment can be completed in one comprehensive stage, some patients benefit from treatment in two phases. This typically involves a first phase (AKA interceptive or early orthodontic treatment) at younger age when there is a mix of primary (baby) teeth and permanent (adult) teeth, followed by a second phase of treatment when all the permanent teeth are present. Two-phase treatment may be recommended when there is a need to regain space from early loss of primary teeth, to correct certain bite problems related to a mismatch in the size of the upper and lower jaws, or to help break certain oral habits.

Leah came to us to correct both an anterior and posterior crossbite, which were corrected with a palatal expander and some braces on her upper front teeth.

💥TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY💥

Amelie came to us with:

1️⃣ Crowded upper and lower teeth
2️⃣ An impacted upper left canine
3️⃣ A Class II bite (upper teeth too forward and/or lower teeth too far back)

We used traditional metal with elastics and had a periodontist expose the impacted canine which was brought into alignment with the other teeth. This allowed us to:

👌Align the upper and lower teeth
😁Correct the fit of the back teeth when they bite
💪Bring the impacted tooth into position

𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 👅

There are lots of great options for correcting lower incisor crowding relapse from previous orthodontic treatment including traditional braces and clear aligners. Another great technique is to use lingual braces (braces that go on the “inside” or tongue side of the teeth). These particular braces are Canadian-made and are virtually invisible. And unlike clear aligners, you don’t have to take them in and out when you eat.

We finished Ashley’s treatment in just 6 months and placed a bonded retainer to prevent any future tooth movement from occurring.

Alyssa recently finished her orthodontic treatment where we used clear aligners and elastics to:

🙏🏻Close spaces between her teeth
👍Reduce her overbite (vertical overlap of the front teeth)
👌Reduce her overjet (horizontal overlap of the front teeth)

Her dentist w/ also did some beautiful cosmetic bonding to widen her small lateral incisor! 🦷
