Dental hygiene has a significant effect on the overall well being of a person. Not only does unkempt oral hygiene makes one look unattractive, but also can lead to major problems like tooth decay or tooth loss. Keeping up with oral hygiene becomes even more difficult with braces. They can hinder the daily cleaning routine and lead to stains on the teeth. The wires may trap food particles, which leads to plaque formation. Therefore, to avoid any damage to your teeth, it is important to devote time to properly clean them.

Proper Brushing
The most effective way of keeping your braces clean is by brushing them properly.

Flossing
Traditional floss can help remove any undesirable particle from between your teeth.

Mouthwash
If you are someone with braces, mouthwash can be your best friend.

Tooth friendly diet
Avoiding food rich in sugar and acidic substances can also help in maintaining your oral health. Sticky foods should be avoided at all costs as they cling to the wires and make cleaning even more difficult.

A few different types of retainers are available, including fixed (metal) and removable (clear) retainers. The type of retainer needed depends on the patient’s risk of relapse, original malocclusion (teeth misalignment), and growth pattern.
How long and how often an orthodontic retainer must be worn is different for everyone. The only way to guarantee teeth positioning is to wear a retainer indefinitely.

- Fixed retainers consist of a metal wire cemented to the back of your front teeth. The wire typically extends from canine to canine.

- Removable retainers are clear or metal appliances that only need to be worn at night. Unlike fixed appliances, you can remove these retainers at any time.

- Hawley Retainers, also called wire retainers, consist of a metal wire and an acrylic base. After orthodontic treatment, these retainers keep the six anterior teeth in the correct position.

- Essix Retainers, also called clear retainers, are made of a slim, clear plastic material. These retainers hold the teeth in place after clear aligner treatment or braces.

How to Clean Teeth With Braces
You know how important it is to brush and floss properly when you’re wearing braces — but what’s the best way to do that? Let’s start with the basic brushing tools: Either a soft-bristled brush or a bi-level brush (one that has shorter bristles in the middle and longer bristles at the edges) can be effective. Used carefully, an electric toothbrush can work just as well. But be sure the electric brush is set to a moderate power level, and don’t let its vibrations cause the back of the brush to hit the braces!
You should brush with a fluoride toothpaste at least two times per day (preferably after meals), for at least two minutes each time. Remember to brush all of the teeth surfaces: the front, the back, and the chewing surfaces as well. Be especially careful to clean the areas between wires and teeth, and between brackets and gums — that’s where food particles can easily become trapped.

If your teen needs braces, chances are he or she isn’t all too thrilled about it! Fortunately, Orthodontics has come a long way in recent years, and there are many low profile, convenient, and practically invisible options to choose from.

Lingual Braces
Lingual Braces are fitted onto the ‘back’ sides of the teeth; that is, the side facing into the mouth, toward the tongue. This means that no one needs to know your teen is wearing braces, unless he or she chooses to show them.

Invisalign
Invisalign makes clear, custom plastic aligners that straighten teeth just like traditional braces do. The difference is, they’re virtually invisible when worn, since they’re completely transparent.

In-Ovation Precision Mini Metallic Braces
In-Ovation system braces are smaller and lower profiles than traditional braces, but their biggest benefit is that they are ‘self-ligating’, meaning they render unsightly elastics and ties unnecessary.

BENEFITS OF CLEAR ALIGNERS FOR YOUR SMILE
The treatment process is simple. You will wear a set daily, usually somewhere between 20 and 23 hours a day. They can be removed before meals, so you don’t have to change your diet. Being able to remove them also makes brushing and flossing your smile much easier, as you don’t have to work around braces. Every two weeks, you will upgrade to the next in the series. Optimal results take about a year for adults and around 18 months for teens. Which means the total treatment time is shorter than is required for braces, and that you also need fewer office visits too!

If you have any questions about how we correct misalignment with the Invisalign® system, just contact us for your visit and we'll be happy to answer all your questions.

While we offer interceptive orthodontics for our younger patients, for teens we offer a completely different approach: we use braces or aligners to shift the teeth into optimal positions, and the steps we take to ensure these options are much less noticeable than traditional braces.

In the teenage years, your child’s smile is still growing and developing, which makes correcting misalignment much easier than in adulthood. By correcting misalignment, your child experiences a lower risk of issues like tooth decay and gum disease, as well as issues related to jaw joint strain, like TMJ disorder and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). An even smile is also linked to higher levels of self-confidence, and a lower risk of breathing-related disorders like obstructive sleep apnea.

Invisalign® means we don’t use metal braces or visible retainers to treat misalignment, instead we offer straighter smiles for teens and adults with clear aligners.
How do we design and craft your series of aligners, and the benefits cosmetic orthodontics offer your smile

PLANNING YOUR TREATMENT
First, we need to make sure the Invisalign® system is right for you. To do so, we need to carefully examine your smile, often employing digital technology, to identify the causes and assess the severity of your misalignment. Next, decide what the best course of treatment will be.

CREATING YOUR ALIGNER SETS
First, we will take a series of images with an intraoral camera, which has a tiny camera is set at the end of a thin wand. We then gather multiple images in a matter of seconds, and do so comfortably. We then combine these images to create a detailed 3D computer model, a digital impression that lets us design the orthodontics with precision and accuracy.

BENEFITS FOR YOUR SMILE
The treatment process is simple. You will wear a set daily, usually somewhere between 20 and 23 hours a day. They can be removed before meals, so you don’t have to change your diet.

3D printing is still considered to be a possible “game changer”: New treatment methods, new forms of team work, new business models. Dentistry is one of the pioneers.
The printing of bases using the laser-controlled method has long since established itself, whereas dental models are made out of plastic for instance. Market researchers see the biggest opportunities for orthodontic appliances, prostheses, crowns, bridges, aligners and models. Wide sections of which have in the meantime become areas of application in the laboratory and practice.

Give us a try today! With today’s technology, there are more options for orthodontic treatments than ever before. Book your visit today and find out!

Have you been told that Invisalign or aligner treatment wasn’t right for you? Maybe you were told that only braces would fix your teeth?
Invisalign and other aligners may not be the best solution for certain issues, but that doesn’t need to stand in your way of getting the best results possible.
Respond Dental have developed a hybrid treatment protocol in which braces can be used for as little as a few months to correct issues that aligners cannot and then switch to aligner treatment to finish your smile. It’s the best of both worlds! Ask Dr. Roodsar if hybrid treatment is right for you.
