Why teeth naturally yellow as you age??
Many of my senior clients ask me and if it's safe?? It sure is and the results are excellent. After years of yellowing and graying teeth, my clients leave happy and smiling after their treatment. Each client is treated based on their needs.
The Dentin structure under the enamel is a living structure that gives our teeth their color but over the years, what we eat or oral habits can make the dentine datken further. The yellow dentine shows through more.
Here are 2 methods I may recommend my clients based on their needs.
In‑office whitening
In‑office whitening uses higher‑concentration peroxide under professional supervision. The dentist protects gums with a gel or shield, then applies the whitening agent to teeth for a set time. A light or laser is sometimes used to activate the gel, although evidence on the added benefit is mixed.
Sessions usually last from 45 minutes to an hour. Some patients need one visit; others return for two or three sessions, especially for darker teeth.
Custom trays for home use
Another medical option is dentist‑made whitening trays. The dentist takes an impression of your teeth and creates thin plastic trays tailored to your mouth. You fill them with a lower‑dose whitening gel and wear them at home, usually for a few hours a day or overnight, over one to three weeks.
This method gives more gradual, controlled lightening and can be topped up in future years using the same trays. It suits people who prefer slower change or who already have some sensitivity.
