Plaque is the sticky, germy mixture that forms on your teeth every day (especially where your teeth and gums meet).

If you fail to clean off plaque, it hardens into tartar — plaque and tartar can cause an infection called gingivitis. Yikes!

Don’t worry, though, because the most effective way to stop plaque in its tracks is by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. You’ve got this!

Ready for your close-up? Our patients often express interest in whitening their teeth for a special event, like a wedding, reunion, graduation, milestone birthday, or special vacation.

Depending on the whitening treatment you choose, you may want to start as early as three months prior to your special event. Then the majority of the whitening will take place ahead of time, and you can have a “booster” treatment right before you really need it.

If you have a special event coming up and you’re curious about your teeth whitening options, please reach out to us and we can discuss it further.

Most patients are curious about what to expect from braces - that’s why we create an individual treatment plan and walk you through the process before the braces are placed. Typically, it takes two to three months to start noticing changes, but some patients see changes in as little as four weeks.
The time that a patient wears braces varies too! Most treatments last from 18 to 24 months but can be longer or shorter.
Book a consultation to find out what you can expect and if braces are right for you.

Did you know we accept new patients of all ages?

We love working with children and setting them on the right path for a lifetime of excellent oral hygiene. We love chatting with kids and teens about their favourite video games (even if we haven’t heard of them). And we love sitting down to catch up with our adult patients — it’s almost like a social call.

As always, we’re so appreciative when you refer your friends, neighbours, and colleagues to us when they’re looking for a new dental practice. Thank you!

Summer has officially arrived! As a reminder, now is an excellent time to schedule a dental appointment for your child or teen. It’s easier to get them in to see us since they aren’t in school! If it’s been six months since their last visit, give us a call to schedule a check-up!

Root canals have a high success rate, and they’re the best way to preserve the look and function of your natural tooth. Thanks to modern technology, going in for a root canal may be as basic as having a cavity filled! You’ll be in and out in no time. We’ll be sure to tell you in advance whether any additional treatment is needed once the root canal is done.

People who floss regularly benefit from healthier teeth and gums, fewer cavities, and fresher breath. It’s easy to make flossing a regular habit and it doesn’t always have to be done at bedtime, just once per day. Floss while watching TV or listening to music, or even in the shower!

Braces are used to reposition teeth to make them straighter. Most braces work with a combination of brackets, wires, and elastics. First, a metal bracket is cemented to each tooth. Then a wire is placed in all the brackets. The wire is held in place by an elastic (also called a ligature) on each bracket. This keeps the wire in place and allows each tooth to move individually - over time the pressure from the wire on the brackets gradually realigns and repositions the teeth to the proper positions.

We may use a few different types of elastics on your braces. In addition to the ligatures, your dentist might use a special elastic called a powerchain to close spaces between teeth. We may also attach a tiny spring to the braces to change the spacing between individual teeth.

Elastics also come in a rainbow of fun colours, so they’re a great way to dress up your braces!

Dental sealants protect children’s baby and adult molars from decay. Sealants are made from a plastic composite material that fills in the grooves on the surface of each molar and keeps food and decay bacteria out. We apply the sealant to the molar and then use a special light to harden it. Once it has hardened, the sealant forms a protective barrier that keeps decay-causing bacteria away.

Here's a quick tip for people with braces - don’t chew on things that aren’t food!

We all do it sometimes, mindlessly chewing on a pen or crunching on ice. It’s a common habit, but one that can cause damage to your braces and your teeth. If you’re finding it hard to break the habit, try leaving yourself a reminder on your phone or computer monitor!

It’s even more important to visit us regularly when you’re expecting a baby because pregnancy hormones can affect the health of your teeth and gums, especially in the later stages.
Be sure to tell us if you’re pregnant, as we may suggest different treatments in different trimesters. Dental work like fillings, for example, is best done in your second trimester. While it’s best to avoid X-rays entirely in early pregnancy, there is only minimal risk, if emergency dental work is required.
By maintaining good brushing and flossing habits at home — and sticking to your regular hygiene visits with us — you’ll be on the right track for healthy teeth and gums throughout your pregnancy and beyond.
