Sometimes moving teeth just isn’t enough. This patient had a broad smile with smaller teeth. Simply bringing them closer together would not create the smile he was looking for.​​​​​​​​​
Alternatively, we were able to create an amazing result with porcelain restorations.

Can I get a cavity under my crown?

Patients often think that once their tooth gets a crown they don't have to worry about it getting a cavity anymore. Well, that is not at all the case as you can see from the photos. *Note the red circle around the areas of decay for comparison*
The edge of a crown where it meets precisely with the tooth has a microscopic margin. This margin / tooth junction still accumulates plaque and bacteria. Therefore it needs to be kept clean with proper flossing and brushing. Your crowns will last you a long time with good homecare, regular check ups and cleanings, and a diet with minimal sugar consumption. If you are uncertain which of your teeth may have crowns, ask one of the team members to show you and demonstrate proper homecare with you. When should my child visit the dentist for the first time ?

It is recommended that a child see the dentist as soon as they get their first teeth. Teeth will begin to show up in your child's mouth around 6 months of age. It's not realistic to expect that the majority of children will let a dentist examine them at this time. And that is ok!

In our experience, many children are able to have their teeth looked at when they are 2-3 years old, whereas some children may struggle with an exam when they are 10 years old. Bringing young children in with a parent or sibling can be useful to show them that it is a safe, positive, fun place to be. Getting their teeth cleaned and checked is quick and easy!

Some things that help with their first visits, is to always portray the dental office in a positive way. Leave the explanations to us as to what will happen. Just reassure them it will be fun. Less information is often better. And please don't worry if your child struggles to co-operate at the dentist. It is very common. We can always facilitate a referral to a pediatric specialist if your child has needs we are unable to meet.

If at any time you are concerned about anything in your child's mouth regardless of age, bring them in to see one of our dentists and we can help you resolve the issue.
