Dental Care for Children and Infants👶

Infants and children are not immune to oral health problems, and it's vital to take proper care of your child's teeth from the very beginning😌

To help you with that, we have prepared a list of dental care necessities for your little ones👇

1️⃣ Baby Teeth Cleaning:
Baby teeth should be cleaned as soon as they erupt. Clean your baby’s teeth with a soft washcloth or gauze after every bottle or meal.
Encourage your children to brush their own teeth once they have the coordination to do so. Replace toothbrushes every two to three months.

2️⃣ First Dental Visit:
It is important that your child visits a dentist by the time they are 1 y.o. to establish long-term dental hygiene and a professional dental cleaning plan.

3️⃣ Dental Sealant Application: Dental sealants are used to protect teeth from decay and are appropriate as soon as a tooth erupts.

4️⃣ Fluoride Treatments:
Check with your dentist and water authority about the need for fluoride treatments.

5️⃣ Dental Flossing: Parent-assisted dental flossing should commence when two teeth erupt next to each other. Independent flossing should occur when children can do it on their own.

6️⃣ Mouth Washing:
Mouth washing is usually recommended by age seven, provided your child can perform the activity.

7️⃣ Orthodontics:
Orthodontics may be appropriate by seven years of age.

🔹Keep in mind that these age ranges are estimates only; you should follow your dentist’s recommendations.

In case you need any advice on pediatric dental care, feel free to give us a call😌

Due to the restrictions ordered by the Ontario Government to reduce the spread of COVID-19, there have been a few questions regarding dentistry.

We wanted to let everyone know that, YES, we are OPEN. Dentistry is an essential part of healthcare and we will continue to provide both preventive and restorative as well as emergency treatment. We will not be providing some elective services such as teeth whitening at this time.

We are grateful to remain open as we know how important it is to stay on top of dental issues before they become major problems. Good oral health is directly related to good overall health. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure that we go above and beyond all of the recommended safety protocols to keep you, your loved ones, and our team healthy and safe. That is, and always will be our highest priority. Our strict protocols include: Advanced pre screening, using Hepa air filters, wearing advanced PPE, and limiting the number of people in the office by making virtual consultations available. Our offices have always been proud of being experts when it comes to asepsis and sterilizations protocols and it should be noted that there has been no evidence of COVID spread related to dental offices at this time.

Should you have any questions, or wish to postpone or delay any upcoming appointments, please feel free to reach out. We completely understand that not everyone is comfortable receiving dental treatment at this time and we will do our best to accommodate all of your needs while making sure that you feel safe.

Continuing to follow our enhanced safety guidelines, that we have had in place since June, will help to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. Underneath these layers of extra protection, rest assured that we are still the same, caring, attentive providers we have always been!

Thank You for your trust during these uncertain times,

Your Smile Centre

What to eat to have a healthier smile?🤔

A balanced and nutritious diet is vital for your general and dental health🥑🥕🍎

Without the right nutrients, your teeth and gums can become more susceptible to decay and gum disease😣 That's why we have prepared some essential tips on improving your daily nutrition😉

🔸 Cut your sugar intake🍫🍭
Sugar is one of the leading causes of dental problems. The average Canadian eats the equivalent of 40 kg of sugar each year🤯

🔸 Know precisely what you eat
Read lists of ingredients when you're grocery shopping. The words 'healthy', 'fitness' and 'sugar-free' can be deceptive🤔

🔸 Use healthier snack alternatives
For example:
- Plain milk and buttermilk
- Fruit and raw vegetables🍉🍏🥬
- Plain yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese🧀
- Hard-boiled or devilled eggs🥚
- Nuts, sunflower, or pumpkin seeds🌻
- Melba toast🥪
- Salads🥗

🔸 Make water your drink of choice
Drinking enough water is essential for your health and wellness💧

Following these simple and useful tips will help you improve your general and dental health😌

Make Teeth Brushing Routine fun for your little ones😃

It can be a challenge to get your kids to brush their teeth sometimes😩 And explaining the importance of oral care is just doesn’t seem to do the trick.

The secret here is in making the tooth brushing routine more fun; and we've got some amazing tips on that😉:

🦷 Brush together and teach by example
You will not only bond with your child, but also make tooth brushing more fun for them🙂

🦷 Make it a game, and see the sparkles in their eyes

🦷 Choose the right toothbrush
Toothbrushes that resemble animals are especially popular among little ones🐰🦄🐼

🦷 Add music
If your toddler loves to dance, why not add some music to your kids tooth brushing routine?🎶

🦷 Reward your child
Praise and encouragement will go a long way. Offer your kids a small reward every night they brush their teeth🎁

Do your children enjoy brushing their teeth? Comment below👇

Dear valued patients,

The Ontario Government has announced new restrictions in various regions of the province beginning Monday, November 23, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. These restrictions include moving the regions of Toronto and Peel into Lockdown (maximum measures) status.

With the announcement that Toronto and Peel regions are heading into lockdown as of tomorrow, we wanted to let you know that all of our Smile Centre locations are still OPEN.
As medical/health providers, we have been classified as providing essential services and will continue to provide both preventive and restorative, as well as emergency treatment. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure that we go above and beyond all of the recommended safety protocols to keep you, your loved ones, and our team healthy and safe. That is, and always will be our highest priority.
If you have not visited one of our clinics lately, here is a reminder of what you can expect at your next visit:

PRE-SCREENING:
A COVID-19 Health Screening Questionnaire will be sent to you prior to your appointment. Please ensure that you respond prior to your office visit. You will be screened again upon arrival and a team member will ask you some questions and take your temperature before you enter the treatment area. You will also notice signage throughout the clinics regarding safety measures in place in the facility, such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), physical distancing, and hand-sanitizing.

ARRIVAL AT CLINIC:
We ask that all patients please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. If you arrive early, you may be asked to wait in your vehicle to reduce the number of people in the waiting area and to aid in social distancing. Please text or call us to let us know that you have arrived and we will let you know when it is ok to enter the office. You will be required to wear a mask at all times in the dental office, except for during treatment, in the treatment room. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one for you.

WAITING AREA:
We have removed most of the seating from our waiting rooms. Whenever possible, we are having patients wait outside of the clinic until their appointment time. However, if you do need to use one of our chairs, please do so. We will ensure the surfaces of the chairs are sanitized after every use. Our receptionists have plexiglass shields in front of them at all times - we ask that you please respect social distancing, even at the front desk, and refrain from touching surfaces there whenever possible and stay behind the shields while speaking with the staff. Our debit/credit machines do accept tap, and are disinfected after every use. We can also offer contactless credit card payment using your smart phone.

DURING YOUR TREATMENT:
All of our clinical team members will be wearing full PPE, such as a mask, glasses and gloves, as well as a face shield with cap and isolation gown when needed. Our team members will let you know when it is safe for you to remove your mask and also when to put it back on at the end of the appointment. At the start of each appointment, every patient will also be given a pre-treatment peroxide based mouth rinse to reduce possible virus in the saliva during intra-oral treatment.

VIRTUAL VISITS:
In addition to in-office visits, virtual appointments are available for consultations and discussions regarding treatment, and may also be recommended in order to reduce your number of visits to our clinics. We have many different times available and all you need is a smart phone, tablet or a computer with a camera in order to have a virtual face to face meeting (no mask required).

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION:
Appointments will be spread out and schedules staggered in order to allow time for proper cleaning and disinfection. As always, all surfaces in treatment areas will be appropriately disinfected after patient visits in accordance with Public Health guidelines and high traffic contact surfaces throughout the offices will be disinfected at regular intervals throughout the day.

Continuing to follow these guidelines will help to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. Underneath these layers of extra protection, rest assured that we are still the same, caring, attentive providers we have always been!

Thank You for your trust in these uncertain times,
