Pumpkin spice latte season is here!

You don’t have to skip your favourite fall drink to look after your smile—but a few small changes can make it a little more tooth-friendly.

Many flavoured coffee drinks can contain a surprising amount of added sugar. Frequent exposure to sugar gives cavity-causing bacteria more fuel to produce acids that can damage tooth enamel.

A few ways to enjoy your fall favourite while being mindful of your teeth:
• Ask for fewer pumps of syrup or choose a sugar-free option when available.
• Skip or reduce sugary toppings like caramel drizzle or extra sweetened whipped cream.
• Drink some water afterward to help rinse away sugars and acids.
• Try to enjoy your coffee in one sitting rather than sipping it over several hours, which repeatedly exposes your teeth to sugar and acid.
• And, of course, keep up with brushing twice a day and flossing daily.

Enjoy the pumpkin spice—you can still be kind to your smile. 🍂🦷
