🇨🇦 owned, female owned and operated As Canadian Certified Pedorthists, C. Ped (C)'s, we specialize in custom made foot orthotics to relieve foot, ankle, knee and hip pain, as well as correcting gait abnormalities. After taking a medical history, assessing the lower limbs both we

ight bearing and non-weight bearing, we are able to video a person's gait to determine if custom made foot orthotics would be beneficial. We use our unique SOLE Technique to set us apart from other orthotic clinics. We provide stabilization using orthopaedic fundamentals of gait with our carefully layered and engineered technique to build your foot orthotics. We also have the training and capability to do footwear modifications (ie lifts, flares), and custom footwear. We can measure and fit for both Performance-Grade (15-20 mmHg) and Medical-Grade (20-30 and 30-40 mmHg) compression socks to help with your sore, swollen and tired legs. All work is done at our on-site lab. A physician's prescription is required for all custom made foot orthotics.

‼️VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION ‼️

Both Tessa and Christy have teenagers (or soon to be) and styles seem to have shifted over the years. We grew up with the thought that socks with sandals was a total faux pas!! 🙈 Now our kids (and so many kids we see in the clinic) are telling us that socks with sandals is the only way to go!! 😳😵‍💫

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞!!!!⁣

To all the golfers out there, do you wear your orthotics in your golf shoes? Did you know that how you stand in your golf shoes can affect your swing? 🏌️ ⁣

We often get golfers in the clinic. When I hear that they golf often, I ask if they wear orthotics in their shoes. While some might, others think it’s unimportant as they take a cart. So I have them swing an imaginary club (or shoe horn) to see what their feet, ankles, knees and hips are doing in their swing. ⁣

What am I watching for?⁣
⛳️ Weight distribution on the feet as they address the ball⁣
⛳️ Ankle movement and stability in backswing, impact, follow through ⁣
⛳️ Knee position during swing and whether any hyperextension occurs ⁣
⛳️ Hip rotation and whether they can stand up at finish ⁣

There’s so much we can do with orthotics for your golf shoes to help change positions of the body as well as to stabilize you during the swing!!! I’ve watched countless hours of golf swings and have researched the biomechanics of the lower body. I’ve worked with golf pros and physiotherapists to get a better understanding of the actions and movements. ⁣

Would you like your lower body golf swing assessed? Just tell us when you’re in for an assessment and bring in your golf shoes!⁣

Peroneal tendonitis is a common condition that causes pain along the outside of the foot and ankle — and it can make everyday activities like walking, standing, or exercising uncomfortable.

Your peroneal tendons are responsible for helping stabilize your ankle and support proper foot movement. When these tendons become irritated or inflamed, it can lead to peroneal tendonitis.

Common signs and symptoms include:
• Pain or tenderness along the outside of the ankle or foot
•🦶Swelling or warmth in the area
• 🦶 Pain that worsens with activity
• 🦶Weakness or instability in the ankle
• 🦶Discomfort when walking on uneven surfaces or during sports/activity

How does it happen?
Peroneal tendonitis often develops from overuse, repetitive strain, ankle instability, improper footwear, high arches, or abnormal foot mechanics that place extra stress on the tendons.

Treatment focuses on reducing stress and inflammation while improving foot function. This may include:
• Rest and activity modification
• Supportive footwear
• Stretching and strengthening exercises
• Bracing or taping
• Ice and anti-inflammatory strategies
• Custom orthotics

Custom orthotics can be an excellent treatment option because they help improve foot alignment, reduce strain on the tendons, and provide better support and stability with every step.

If you’ve been dealing with pain on the outside of your foot or ankle, it may be more than “just soreness.”

Many people wonder how to pick the right shoe for them. Although it may be confusing, here are a few tips to get you started!

1️⃣ Check to make sure the length and width is right! You should have about a finger width of space from the end of your longest toe. Your foot should fit nicely within the limits of the footbed, not spilling over. Find the widest part of the foot (across 1st and 5th toe joints) and make sure the foot is not spilling over the edges.
2️⃣ Ensure the shoe is the right style for your foot. Some people are better suited for a neutral shoe compared to a stability shoe that aids in those who's feet collapse. Depending on your foot you may do better in a rounded or cushioned shoe in comparison to a flat shoe. Stiffness in a shoe is also something to consider. If a shoe is quite flexible, it won't provide as much support as a stiff shoe.
3️⃣ Ensure the shape of the shoe is right for your foot. Some styles are more tapered (left) and some are more rounded (right). Ensure the right depth is important too, some shoes are deeper to fit those with thicker or high-arched feet.

Walking with poles?!? That's for old people!!⠀

Not true. More and more people are picking up on the trend of Nordic Pole Walking, of all different age groups. It's a whole body exercise that uses a similar technique to cross-country skiing.⠀

These poles look like ski poles and when used properly can burn more calories than just normal walking. But there are several other benefits to using Nordic Poles for walking:⠀
👣 Full body workout⠀
👣 Reduces stress and strain on the lower body⠀
👣 Helps balance the body during gait⠀
👣 Develops core stability and strength⠀
👣 Promotes upright posture⠀

If you've been looking to up your walking game, I highly suggest looking into Nordic Pole Walking. Or if you're looking for a balanced way to enjoy walking (without a cane or walker), speak to your physician and pedorthist about the use of the walking poles.⠀

Have you ever used Nordic Walking Poles?⠀

Did you know there are FOUR layers to the feet? 🦶

Although the feet are a small body part, they are packed full of muscles that each have a unique job. As a Pedorthist, it is our job to try to figure out where the issues are stemming from and how to help correct any problems. All these layers make the feet a complex thing to treat, which is why we have been in school for many years to learn how each muscle works.

Have a question about the muscles in the feet, comment below!!
