Shown here are two cases of adult canine impactions. Each case requires collaboration between an oral surgeon and an orthodontist to obtain the desired final result.

After the surgical portion of the plan, the patient will follow-up with the orthodontist until the adult canine has been brought into the ideal position.

When young patients have extra teeth—known as supernumerary teeth—that form between their developing adult (permanent) tooth and the erupted baby (primary) tooth, the eruption of the permanent tooth can be blocked.

Shown here is a 7-year-old female whose permanent central incisor (tooth #11) could not properly erupt due to two supernumerary teeth. The primary teeth ( #51 and #61) were removed along with the two supernumerary teeth to allow for unimpeded eruption of the permanent central incisors ( #11 and #21).

Guided implant surgery allows for precise positioning of dental implants based on a desired prosthetic outcome. In this case, the patient had Straumann BLC implants placed at the #44 and #46 sites to allow for an implant-supported fixed bridge after implant healing.

Dr. M attended the Noris Medical Zygomatic/Pterygoid/Transnasal Implant Surgery Workshop with Dr. Dan Holtzclaw and Dr. Alex Nguyen in Coppell, Texas. These remote anchorage techniques allow a full-arch, All-on-X surgeon to treat a broader range of patients with advanced atrophy of the jaws.
