Our hygiene visits take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on a patient’s oral health needs.

During a standard hygiene visit, our hygienist will scale your teeth to remove plaque bacteria and calculus (hardened plaque) and polish your teeth to remove stains and give them a shiny finish. There may also be a fluoride treatment, as well as a discussion on the best ongoing care for your teeth and gums.

Children often have spaces between their baby teeth to allow for larger permanent teeth to grow in and fill in the spaces. Not only are these gaps normal, but they can also make it easier to clean between teeth and allow permanent teeth to grow in straight.

As permanent teeth grow in, they may appear darker and more yellow than primary teeth. Don’t worry, this is completely normal. Adult teeth have more dentin than primary teeth, which shows through the translucent enamel layer — giving adult teeth a healthy off-white or yellow color. Once all the primary teeth have been lost, you won’t even notice the color.

Brushing at least twice a day is great, but flossing is important too! Flossing not only gets the little bits of food stuck between the teeth, but it also removes plaque from areas that toothbrushes can’t reach. Keep your teeth healthy by flossing every day!

Dental restorations come in many shapes and sizes to repair decayed or fractured teeth. Fillings are used to repair smaller areas of decay while larger areas may be addressed with an inlay or an onlay. Crowns are used when there is a large amount of decay or fractures.
