Thinking about picking up a hobby? The benefits extend beyond just a temporary distraction!

A 2023 study published in Nature Medicine (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-023-02506-1) followed 93,263 adults aged 65+ across 16 countries and the results were fascinating...

People with hobbies reported greater happiness and life satisfaction, better self-rated health, and fewer depressive symptoms.

Even more interestingly, consistently participating in a hobby also predicted future happiness, satisfaction, health and helped lessen depressive episodes.

A 2022 systematic review (https://www.neurology.org/doi/10.1212/WNL.0000000000200929) and meta-analysis involving more than 2 million participants found that cognitive leisure activities like arts and crafts were associated with a 34% lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease.
