It's National Tooth Fairy Day! 🦷 We saw a lot of kids this summer, and a lot of wiggly teeth! 😁 Check out all the baby teeth ready to fall out in the x-ray! 🦷

We get asked a lot by parents when kids should be getting certain teeth, and when they should be losing them, but every child is different. Some kids lose their baby teeth much earlier than others, and some kids lose their baby teeth much later than others 🦷

Do you have a wiggly tooth? Don't forget to put it under your pillow for the Tooth Fairy when it falls out 😁

Did you know...? πŸ€”
..7 out of 10 Canadians will develop gum disease at some point in their life 🦷

It is a very common dental problem, which is why it's so important to prevent gum disease before it becomes serious.

How can you prevent gum disease? πŸ€”

-brush your teeth properly twice a day and floss at least once a day
-use proper brushing and flossing technique
-see your Hygienist and Dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups

How can you tell if you're brushing and flossing properly? πŸ€”

-be sure to brush your teeth gently, and pay special attention to the areas where your teeth and gums meet
-using a piece of dental floss, wrap it around your middle fingers, making a C shape around each tooth
-repeat on each tooth, using a clean area of the dental floss each time

Already in an early stage of gum disease?
-getting rid of plaque and tartar gives your gums a chance to get better, which is why it's essential to see your Hygienist regularly for cleanings

When gum disease is more advanced, your Dentist may refer you to a specialst called a Periodontist, which is trained in treating gum disease, and restoring bone and gum tissue 🦷

Root Canal Awareness Week – Everything You Should Know! 🦷

The root is the part of the tooth that is below the gingiva, or gum tissue. Inside the tooth is the pulp (also called the root canal) which contains blood vessels, nerve tissues, and other cells. When an infection invades the pulp because of a crack or decay, it must be removed to relieve pain and stop further damage.

Signs or Symptoms you need RCT

-acute pain while chewing and biting
-sensitivity to hot or cold
-deep decay

The Root Canal Therapy Procedure 🦷

Endodontic therapy is completed in three simple steps:

1. Cleaning the Root Canal

Using very small instruments, a small access point is made in the tooth’s crown to remove the diseased and dead pulp from the pulp chamber and root canals. Then, the space is shaped for filling.

2. Filling the Root Canal

Next, using gutta-percha, a biocompatible material, we fill the root canals. To ensure the pulp chamber is completely sealed, a strong dental adhesive is used.

3. Adding a Crown or Filling

Finally, we will place a temporary crown (recommended) or filling over the tooth.

Endodontic Therapy vs Extraction

When possible, it’s best to preserve our natural tooth as they help us chew and speak properly, and keep other teeth from shifting. This is why many Dentists will recommend root canal therapy over an extraction.

Unfortunately, not all teeth can be saved. A severely decayed tooth will likely need to be extracted.

We are lucky to work with fantastic Specialists who take great care of our patient! πŸ₯° Burlington Endodontics Dr. Munce & Dr. Bajwa too! 🦷
