Healthy Habits for Tiny Smiles! 🩵👶✨
Caring for your little one's teeth starts much earlier than many parents realize! Dr. Kherani and the Southend Dental team want to share a few essential tips to help you protect those brand-new milestones right from the beginning:
Start Early: Don't wait! Begin brushing with a soft-bristled baby toothbrush as soon as you see that very first tooth break through the gums.
Toothpaste Safety: Use a non-fluoride toothpaste for babies and toddlers until they are old enough to reliably spit it out.
Smart Bedtime Habits: If your child needs a bottle or cup to fall asleep, fill it with water only. Sending them to bed with milk or juice allows sugars to pool around their teeth all night, which can cause rapid decay.
Watch the Sticky Snacks: Be mindful of snacks like crackers and raisins. They easily become paste-like and get trapped in the deep grooves of tiny teeth, making them a major culprit for early cavities.
The First Visit: Plan to book their first official dental checkup around the age of two and a half. It's a great way to get them comfortable with the chair and ensure their smile is on the right track!
A lifetime of healthy smiles starts with these simple daily habits.
