Meet Dr. Mike Allan! Dr. Allan was born and raised in Coquitlam, BC. After graduating from UBC's Faculty of Dentistry in 2018 he moved to the Northwest Territories to serve Yellowknife and several other rural communities north of 60. Upon returning to BC, Mike realized he enjoyed being part of a smaller community which landed him right here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Dr. Allan's approach to dentistry is quite simple: to provide quality, evidence-based, patient-centered dental care in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Mike enjoys all aspects of restorative dentistry but his artistic eye and abilities have made him quite passionate about cosmetic dentistry.

In Mike's free time you may find him trail running, hiking or mountain biking the local trails, throwing a barbell around for fun or simply strolling through lower Gibsons with his beautiful wife, Lucia and energetic, husky, Tundra.

Tooth Tip #2: It's important to visit your dentist regularly! Your own everyday habits are crucial to your overall oral health but even the most dutiful brushers and flossers need to see a dentist regularly. Not only can a dentist remove calculus and look for cavities, but they will also be able to spot potential issues and offer treatment solutions. For adults, the standard is anywhere from one to four times per year depending on your personal periodontal needs, while it is generally standard for children to visit twice per year. Your dentist and hygienist can help you determine the frequency of visits that is best suited for you.

Tooth #10 - Limit sugary and acidic foods! Ultimately, sugar converts into acid in the mouth, which can then erode the enamel of your teeth. These acids are what lead to cavities. Acidic fruits, wine, teas, and coffee can also wear down tooth enamel. While you don’t necessarily have to avoid such foods altogether, it doesn’t hurt to be mindful.

Dr. Emery Bland was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast and after many years of schooling and travelling, he graduated from UBC Dentistry and moved back home. Shortly after, he was lucky enough to meet his beautiful wife Genelle, who also works as a dental hygienist in the office. Emery was honoured to eventually take the reigns from his parents, who have worked in dentistry for 50 years.

Emery sincerely enjoys the diversity of being a general dentist and loves interacting with people. He finds reward in getting his patients out of discomfort, restoring their chewing function, and providing a little glimmer to their smile. He truly feels privileged to be able to provide the service he does.

At home, you will find Emery at the bottom of a dog pile under his two boys, Carter and Blake. He loves cooking for them and watching them grow and change every day. Emery believes in the importance of overall health so you will always find him running the streets and trails of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Tooth Tip #9: Eat crunchy fruits and veggies! Ready-to-eat foods are convenient, but perhaps not so much when it comes to your teeth. Eating fresh, crunchy produce not only contains more healthy fiber, but it’s also the best choice for your teeth. Try try to avoid the overly mushy processed stuff, stop cutting things into tiny pieces, and get those jaws working!
