Hello! I'm Alexis, the Registered Dental Hygienist and passionate founder of Sunny Smiles Dental Hygiene. My journey into the world of dental care began right here in our community, graduating from Niagara College's Dental Hygiene program in 2016. Since then, I've had the privilege of honing my skills and providing care in diverse settings, including both genera

l dentistry offices and independent dental hygiene clinics. My approach to dental hygiene is deeply shaped by a personal experience I had as a child. A less-than-positive dental visit left a lasting impression on me, fueling a strong desire to ensure others, especially those who feel anxious about dental care, have a comfortable, empathetic, and positive experience. I truly understand how past experiences can influence current feelings, and I'm committed to providing compassionate patient-centered care. For a number of years, I've been listening to my patients concern about the gap in access to essential dental hygiene care that many of their loved ones in our community face. Whether it's due to busy schedules, mobility challenges, anxiety about traditional clinic settings, or simply the need for a more convenient option, I saw a need. This is what inspired me to create Sunny Smiles Dental Hygiene – a mobile service dedicated to helping narrow that gap. My goal is to provide high-quality, preventative dental hygiene care to people of all ages, wherever they are most comfortable, be it out of convenience or necessity. I am genuinely passionate about dental hygiene and its vital role in overall health and well-being. I love empowering my patients with the knowledge and care they need to achieve and maintain a healthy, confident smile. I look forward to bringing dedicated, personalized dental hygiene care directly to you here in the Niagara Region!

On June 5th, Sunny Smiles Dental Hygiene turns one year old.

As I reflect on this milestone, I can’t help but feel incredibly grateful.

What many people don’t know is that this dream of owning my own practice was a goal I set for myself before I even received my acceptance letter into dental hygiene school almost 14 years ago.

There is something special about reaching a goal you’ve worked toward for so long. I’m proud of what I’ve built, but even more grateful for the people who helped make it possible.

To every patient who has trusted me with their care, thank you. Whether you’ve invited me into your home through my mobile services or visited me in my treatment space, your trust means the world to me. Thank you for choosing me not only for your own care, but for the care of your children, parents, spouses, and loved ones as well.

This past year has been full of growth. Sunny Smiles began as a completely mobile practice, and being able to now offer care from my own treatment space has truly been a dream come true.

None of it would be possible without the support of this amazing community. I hope my passion for this profession shines through in the care I provide every day.

I’ve noticed something with my guitar. When it’s packed away in its case, I rarely play it. But when it’s sitting out on the stand, I pick it up all the time.

It’s the same with your oral care.

I’ve been a dental hygienist for 10 years, and one thing has always stayed the same -my focus on prevention and helping people feel comfortable in the chair.

I know dental visits can come with a lot of anxiety. That’s something I take seriously. I do my best to create a calm, supportive environment where you feel heard, not rushed.

Sunny Smiles Dental Hygiene was created because I wanted to do things differently. I wanted to bring back a more personal approach to care, where you’re not just another appointment, but someone I truly get to know and support over time.

I offer professional teeth whitening in a comfortable, one-on-one setting, focused on giving you noticeable results while keeping things gentle.

I use a high quality whitening system with natural ingredients that’s designed to be effective with low sensitivity.

What to expect:
• Up to 1.5 hour appointment depending on your goals
• Relaxed, private setting

After care:
For best results, avoid staining foods and drinks for 24 to 48 hours

“Bowie-Dick”… not what you think 😅

Just a quick little reminder for anyone working with sterilizers:

The Bowie-Dick test is used to make sure your pre-vacuum autoclave is actually doing its job - specifically removing air properly so steam can pe*****te the load.

It’s meant to be done daily, and it can catch things like small air leaks or vacuum issues before they become bigger problems.

One thing I see get mixed up sometimes: this test is only for pre-vacuum (dynamic air removal) sterilizers. If you’re using a gravity unit, you don’t need to be doing a Bowie-Dick.

Simple test, but really important for making sure everything we’re using on our patients is truly sterile.

Mobile dental hygiene is exactly what it sounds like. I bring dental hygiene care to you instead of you having to go to a clinic.

For a lot of people, getting to a dental office is not easy. This can be due to anxiety, mobility challenges, busy schedules, or caring for loved ones. That is where mobile care fills an important gap.

Many mobile dental hygienists are people who love what they do but wanted to reach patients in a different way. It is becoming more recognized because there is a real need for it.

I provide care in homes, long term care settings, and for anyone who would benefit from a more comfortable and accessible experience.
