Many of you know our wonderful hygienist Marguerite! She'll be reaching out to many of you soon, as we reopen hygiene services on Monday, June 1.

She'll be smiling at you from behind her face shield and N95 respirator. Even though her protective equipment will be different, she still promises to deliver attentive and compassionate care.

We're looking forward to seeing you soon!

We will see some of you tomorrow. We're looking forward to it, even though it's not quite business as usual yet.

At this time, only procedures with our general dentists are being accommodated. We are trying to maintain as many safety measures as possible. Hygiene scheduling will hopefully be available soon.

Thank you for all your patience again.

We're getting ready to see you again. On May 20, we will reopen for urgent care patients. Leslie has already started to contact patients who need to be seen.

This is us at our N95 fit test and training session. Our clinicians will be dressed in enhanced PPE when they see you next.

Thank you for your continued patience. An email has been sent to our existing patients regarding the safety precautions and procedures we are taking at the clinic. Please let us know if you have any questions.

As we prepare for reopening for urgent care patients, we were grateful to receive this donation of face shields from The Canadian Shield today, which we will be distributing to a number of dental clinics in South Edmonton.

This is a made in Canada solution for the PPE shortages we face. A salute to our friends at The Canadian Shield, who will soon be producing surgical masks for our front line workers!

Some of you may have heard that the provincial government is allowing dental clinics to reopen on Monday. We're eager to get back to it too, but there's still a lot of work to be done, and we're waiting for guidelines from the dental association to provide an environment that's as safe as possible for everyone.

We'll let everyone know when we are actually able to see patients and for which procedures. Based on guidelines from Manitoba and Saskatchewan, there are likely a number of changes that will need to made for the safety of our patients and staff both. These sneeze guards are something you'll see when you're at the clinic next. Some of these changes may require construction changes in some areas of the clinic.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Life's not normal right now, but let's not forget to do those little things on a regular basis.

If you have kids, check the bristles on their toothbrushes. Kids love to munch on the ends, which makes them look like the pink one in the picture. Replace them when they look too worn.

Got questions about your kids' oral health routines during this shutdown? Feel free to drop us an email at [email protected], or leave us a message on Facebook!

Although normal life is on hold, we're always thankful for the work of our frontline health care workers. It's a small thing to send some of our supplies their way to help in their fight against COVID-19.

Offers to help AHS can be made to [email protected]. Fortunately, things are not as dire here as in other areas, but we're sure they appreciate any assistance they can get.

We get a lot of questions lately about what emergency treatments can be done at this time. We'd like to share the directive sent to all dental offices from the Alberta Dental Association and College from March 26:

===============================
Emergency dental treatment includes treatment of oral-facial trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications.

Members are not to provide routine or urgent care to patients. Only emergency care that fits within this description.

In addition to this, IF you deem it necessary to perform any treatment that involves an Aerosol Generating Medical Procedure, it is now a requirement that you wear enhanced PPE such as; protective clothing, gloves, fitted N-95 masks, protective eyewear or face shield (due to the aerosol being created).

These measures are necessary to protect you, your staff and the public from known routes of COVID-19 disease transmission.

============================

Stay safe and stay home. We'll be here for you when this crisis is over.

Emergency triage of our patients is available via email at [email protected], or by phone at 780-935-6971.

Our dental clinic in South Edmonton is looking for a part time dental hygienist to cover a maternity leave after May 15, 2020 for one year.

The days for coverage are Tuesdays (9:30-4:30), Thursdays (11:00-6:00), Fridays (8:00-1:00), and 1 or 2 Saturday shifts per month (9:00-1:00).

Our clinic is a family dental office with an emphasis on patient care and modern technology. The office is digital, and we are willing to provide training for digital photography and 3D CADCAM scanning. Candidates should expect to provide care for scaling/root planing, preventive care (ie. fluoride, silver diamine), sealants, radiographs, and diagnostic procedures (ie. photographs, probing, charting etc). Team duties may include sterilization of instruments, cleaning and setting up of operatories, assisting with various administrative tasks, and sharpening of instruments.

Candidates need to be strong team players and work well with a variety of team members, while providing ethical and knowledgeable treatment for patients.

For out of province applicants, we are willing to help with obtaining licensing during this maternity leave position. We are willing to pay for a one year license for a candidate who passes an initial 90 day probation period. Compensation is dependent on years of experience and skill set.

Email resumes to [email protected]. Thank you!
