Fall is basically a season-long test for your teeth. Let's talk about it!

Between hot chocolate, caramel apples, Halloween candy, and all the other seasonal favourites, your mouth is dealing with a lot more sugar and temperature change than usual. None of that means you have to skip the good stuff, it just means a few habits go a long way!

A couple of things worth keeping in mind this fall:

→ Rinse with water after sugary drinks/snacks to help neutralize acid
→ Give it 30 minutes before brushing after anything acidic
→ Watch out for hard candies and caramel as they're tough on enamel and fillings
→ Hot drinks followed by cold ones can trigger sensitivity if your enamel is already worn
→ Keep up with your cleanings so any seasonal buildup gets caught early

Enjoy the season, just look after your teeth while you're at it 😊

X-rays can reveal what’s happening long before symptoms appear.

Here's a few things your x-rays actually show us:

→ Cavities forming between teeth that aren't visible to the naked eye
→ Bone loss around the roots, which can be an early sign of gum disease
→ Infections or abscesses that haven't caused pain yet
→ Impacted or crowded teeth developing beneath the surface
→ Changes in bone or tissue that could signal something worth monitoring

A lot of what we find on x-rays has no symptoms yet, helping patients catch things early for simpler, less costly treatment down the line.

Many Canadians have heard of the CDCP but aren't quite sure what it means for them.

If you have federal dental coverage through the program, it could cover more than you think. Routine exams, cleanings, and treatments that may have been sitting on the back burner for a while. A lot of patients are surprised by what they're actually eligible for! 🇨🇦🦷

North Central Dental accepts CDCP patients and we're happy to walk you through your options and next steps. Give us a call and we'll sort it out together.
