👶🦷 A Dentist’s Thoughts on Infant Oral Ties & Feeding Challenges
Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Stas a general dentist at Uptown Dental with a special interest in tongue-ties and lip-ties.
Caring for our tiniest patients is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be complex. Many new parents come to us concerned about feeding difficulties, shallow latch, painful nursing sessions, slow weight gain, reflux, excessive gas, or even concerns with oral development. In many cases, a restrictive frenulum (tongue-tie or lip-tie) may be contributing.
Frenectomies, when indicated, can be a gentle and effective option to improve function, but this is never a one-person decision. As a dentist, I strongly believe in a collaborative, team-based approach to infant care.
If you suspect your baby may have a tie, here’s my professional recommendation:
❤️ Work with a Lactation Consultant first for a thorough feeding evaluation. We work along side a lactation consultants who is often here on assessment days. Please look up Megan on instagram .schafers if you have any questions feel free to reach out to her.
👶 Consult your Paediatrician for overall health, growth, and medical context
🧘♀️ Consider pediatric chiropractors or bodyworkers for complementary support with tension and alignment
Every baby is unique, and early, coordinated care makes all the difference. We never rush into procedures a proper diagnosis and full team input are essential.
