Most dental plans reset on January 1. Whatever coverage is left on December 31 just disappears.

Preventive visits like exams and cleanings are usually covered at the highest percentage, so they are often the most efficient way to use what's left. And fall is the easy time to book. December fills up fast, especially evening and weekend spots.

A few things worth checking before you call:

Your benefit year-end date

How much of your annual maximum is unused

How many cleanings your plan covers per year

Whether each family member has their own maximum or shares one

We have evening appointments Monday, Wednesday and Thursday until 7 PM at our West Edmonton clinic.

Dental insurance benefits reset every January. Book a preventive visit in West Edmonton before your unused coverage expires at year-end.

It's September. Homework has started, soccer and hockey are filling the calendar, and your child's dental check-up is still on the list.

A back-to-school dental exam can check for cavities, monitor how permanent teeth are coming in, and identify signs of grinding or clenching. It is also a good time to check sports mouthguards and discuss sealants for new molars.

Evening appointments are available Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 7 PM, helping West Edmonton families fit visits in without missing school.

The day is full, and suddenly you’re dealing with a toothache that keeps pulsing — or a crown that cracks right before an important meeting.

When pain is severe, keeps you from sleeping, or comes with swelling, or when a crown breaks and leaves the tooth sharp, sensitive, or difficult to chew on, it’s time to treat it as an emergency. Rinsing gently with warm salt water, using over-the-counter pain medication as directed, avoiding chewing on the affected side, and staying away from very hot, cold, or sticky foods can help until you’re seen — but they don’t replace prompt care.

Our article explains how emergency dental care works in Glenora and West Edmonton, what to do right away for toothaches and broken crowns, and when we recommend booking same-day.

You want straighter teeth, but you're stuck between clear aligners and traditional braces — and the choice feels bigger than it should.

Both straighten teeth effectively; they just suit different situations. Clear aligners are discreet and removable and tend to fit mild to moderate cases, while braces handle more complex bite and crowding issues with steady, always-on movement. Our latest guide compares them on appearance, comfort, treatment time, and which cases each is best for.

Trying to understand what “affordable family dentistry” actually looks like in West Edmonton, beyond just the price tag?

In family dentistry, affordability is usually built from several pieces working together: preventive checkups that reduce emergency visits, treatment plans that prioritize the most important steps first, and options to spread care across visits so problems are caught early. When you compare clinics, look for clear explanations of recommended treatments, transparent discussion of alternatives, and guidance on how each decision affects long-term oral health for kids, teens, and adults.

Just around the corner from Jasper Place High School in West Edmonton, our team has been noticing how many young families are out enjoying the neighbourhood lately. After years of serving this local community, we constantly observe that early childhood dental anxiety is one of the biggest hurdles parents face when establishing healthy routines. Helping a child build a positive relationship with the dentist early on is a lot like teaching them to skate at the local outdoor community rink. It takes immense patience, a supportive environment, and the right preparation to ensure they feel confident rather than afraid of falling. We focus heavily on preventative care and gentle education to build that lifelong confidence right here at home. 🦷🧸✨

We've mapped out the full details and local considerations in our latest guide. See the first comment below:

Early detection in preventive dentistry focuses on finding small issues before they become larger problems. Regular exams help identify early signs of decay, gum concerns, and bite changes so dentists can address them while they are still manageable. Catching conditions early supports healthier teeth and gums over time.

Learn how early dental problem detection supports preventive care, reduces treatment needs, and protects long term oral health.
