🥶 WHY DOES COLD FOOD HURT MY TEETH?

That sharp “OUCH!” when you bite into ice cream or sip a cold drink isn’t something you should automatically ignore!

Cold sensitivity can happen for several reasons, including:

🦷 Worn enamel — less protection means temperature can reach the sensitive layers of your tooth more easily.

🪥 Gum recession — exposed tooth roots don’t have protective enamel, which can make them more sensitive.

🦠 Cavities — decay can expose deeper parts of the tooth and cause sensitivity.

⚡ Cracked teeth — even a tiny crack can trigger sharp pain when exposed to temperature changes.

🦷 Recent dental work — sensitivity can sometimes be temporary after fillings, crowns, cleanings, or other treatment.

❄️ The important part: If your sensitivity is persistent, getting worse, or happening in just one tooth, don’t just avoid cold foods—find out why it’s happening.

Your teeth may be trying to tell you something! 🫶🦷

🎒🍎 ARE THESE SCHOOL SNACKS ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOUR TEETH? 🦷

Packing a lunchbox? Not all snacks affect your teeth the same way!

Here’s the scoop 👇

🍎 Apples: A great tooth-friendly choice!
🧀 Cheese: Low in sugar and a great snack option.
🥛 Yogurt: Choose options with little or no added sugar.
🌾 Granola bars: Check the label—some can be surprisingly high in added sugar and may stick to teeth.
🍓 Fruit snacks: They may look like fruit, but they can be sticky and sugary.
🧃 Juice boxes: Often high in sugar, so water is a better everyday drink for little smiles.

💡 Back-to-school tip: Choose whole, less-processed snacks more often and keep water handy throughout the day!

And remember: a healthy lunchbox can help support a healthy smile! 💙

🪥 ARE YOU BRUSHING LONG ENOUGH?

2 minutes. 2× a day.
Your teeth deserve the full two minutes! ⏱️✨

Rushing through brushing can mean missing areas where plaque builds up—especially along the gumline, between teeth, and on the back surfaces of your teeth.

Taking the full two minutes gives you more time to thoroughly clean all those hard-to-reach spots and keep your smile healthy. 🦷💙

Quick tip: Divide your mouth into 4 sections and spend about 30 seconds brushing each one!

A new school year means new routines—and your child’s dental health should be part of the checklist! ✅

Before the busy school schedule kicks in, make sure your little one is ready with these simple dental habits:

🦷 Schedule a dental checkup
🪥 Brush 2× a day for 2 minutes
🧵 Floss every day
🔄 Replace that old toothbrush
🍎 Pack tooth-friendly snacks
💧 Keep water nearby throughout the day

Small habits can make a BIG difference when it comes to keeping those smiles healthy all school year long! 😁

We’d love to see you here at Sky Dental! 🦷🪥

🦷 “But I brush my teeth every day… why are they still yellow?”

Here’s the thing: yellowish teeth don’t necessarily mean your teeth are dirty or that you’re not brushing properly!

So remember: healthy teeth don’t have to be perfectly white! 🤍

If you’re unhappy with the color of your teeth, your dentist can help determine whether the discoloration is from surface staining, your natural tooth shade, or something else — and discuss which whitening options may be appropriate for you.

💙 Healthy first. White second.

🧵 Floss before or after brushing?

We recommend flossing before you brush! Flossing loosens plaque and debris between your teeth, allowing your toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to clean more effectively afterward. 🪥✨

But here’s the most important part: don’t skip flossing! The best routine is the one you can stick to every day. 💙

🧵 Think flossing isn’t important? Think again!

Skipping floss means plaque and food particles stay trapped between your teeth, where your toothbrush can’t reach. Over time, this can lead to bleeding gums, bad breath, cavities, and even gum disease.

The good news? Flossing only takes a minute or two each day, and it can make a big difference in protecting your smile.

Not sure if you’re flossing correctly? Ask our team at Sky Dental during your next visit—we’re always happy to help! 🦷💙
