Today, we remember the brave fight for our freedom. This started in honour of World War I veterans on November 11, 1918 - and we honour it still today.

In Canada, we remember the soldiers and all who fought in World Wars I and II, and all conflicts the Canadian Armed forces have served in to keep the peace we enjoy every day.

Let us take time in the “remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.”

Did you know ...

Fruitcake dates back to ancient Rome, where one of the earliest known recipes listed pomegranate seeds, pine nuts, and raisins mixed into barley mash. During the Middle Ages, records indicate that honey, spices, and preserved fruits were added to fruitcake.

Whether a fan or not, if you have temporomandibular jaw (TMJ) disorder, you may want to go easy on the fruitcake. Although berries and nuts help reduce inflammation, the sugar in fruitcake may exacerbate any inflammation you may have in the jaw.

What is Boxing Day?

There are different stories as to how Boxing Day got it’s name.

One explanation is that it originated in early 19th century England. December 26th was a day that servants to wealthy English people got time off. The servants were given boxes with Christmas presents and food in them to take home to their families.

Whatever the origin, perhaps we can look to it as a day of gratitude for all that we have. Help a neighbor or friend. Give a kind word to a child or elder. Try donating things that you may not need anymore to a worthy cause.

Let’s keep spreading the gift of giving and joy.
