Fissure sealants are protective coatings that are placed on the biting surfaces of the permanent molars. They cover over the pits and grooves of the teeth and protect them from the bacteria that cause dental decay.

At your child’s regular dental examinations, we assess new adult teeth to determine whether fissure sealants are needed.

The sippy cup was developed as a transitional cup between the baby bottle and a regular cup but often they are being used for prolonged periods of time.

When toddlers drink from the sippy cup, the liquid they drink bathes all the upper front teeth. If that liquid contains any sugar, those teeth can be exposed all day long, increasing risk of decay. In addition, pressure from the continuous sucking motion can cause the front teeth to move back.
