Here's your reminder that healthy teeth don't have to be perfectly white 🦷✨

Natural teeth come in a variety of shades, and it's completely normal for them to have a slightly yellow or off-white appearance.

Things like genetics, enamel thickness, and age all influence the natural colour of your smile.

At the end of the day, healthy teeth are more important than perfectly white ones.

Feeling stressed? Your teeth might be feeling it, too.

Stress doesn't just affect how we feel mentally. It can also show up in our oral health.

When we're stressed, we may be more likely to clench our jaws or grind our teeth, sometimes without even realizing it!

Over time, this can contribute to tooth wear and sensitivity, jaw pain or tension, and headaches.

If you've been noticing jaw discomfort, sensitive teeth, or waking up with a sore jaw, it's worth mentioning at your next dental appointment.

The end of the year will be here before we know it!

Did you know that many dental insurance plans reset at the end of the calendar year?

If you have dental benefits, now is a great time to review your coverage and see if you have any remaining benefits to use before December 31st.

Whether you're due for a routine cleaning or have been putting off recommended treatment, planning ahead can help you make the most of your coverage.

“Why do my teeth look more yellow than they used to?”

It might not just be your coffee habit.

As we age, the outer layer of enamel can gradually become thinner, allowing more of the naturally yellowish dentin underneath to show through. Add years of coffee, tea and other staining foods and drinks, and you may notice your smile changing colour over time.

In other words: some yellowing is a completely normal part of getting older.

If the colour of your teeth is bothering you, though, ask us about it at your next visit. We can help you figure out what’s causing it and what your options are. 🦷

Haven’t been to the dentist in a while because you’re nervous?

First: you do not need to apologize.

Whether it’s been six months, two years or… honestly, you’ve lost count, our job isn’t to make you feel bad about the time that’s passed. It’s to meet you where you are and figure out what your teeth need now.

Dental anxiety is incredibly common, and you’re always welcome to tell us when you’re feeling nervous, ask questions or let us know you need a break.

A cavity doesn’t go from “everything’s fine” to “I need a root canal” overnight. 🦷

Tooth decay happens in stages.

It can start with early mineral loss in the enamel, progress into a cavity, move deeper into the tooth and, if left untreated, eventually reach the nerve.

That’s one reason regular dental exams matter. We’d much rather find a problem while it’s still small (and usually much simpler to deal with).

Pumpkin spice season is officially here 🎃☕

And while we would never dream of coming between you and your PSL, your teeth may have a tiny note.

Coffee can contribute to surface staining over time — especially when you’re sipping it slowly throughout the day.

The good news? You don’t have to give it up. Drink some water afterward, try not to nurse the same coffee all morning, and keep up with regular brushing and dental cleanings.

Why does orange juice taste SO bad after brushing your teeth? 🍊🪥

You can thank your toothpaste!

An ingredient commonly used in toothpaste (Sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS) creates that foamy feeling that can temporarily interfere with the way your taste buds perceive sweet and bitter flavours. The result? Your normally sweet glass of orange juice suddenly tastes surprisingly bitter.

Consider this your excuse to enjoy your OJ before you brush. 😉

Back-to-school season is almost here! 🎒

While you’re checking backpacks, lunch boxes and school supplies off the list, it’s a good time to check in on a few dental basics too.

Swap out worn toothbrushes, make sure there’s plenty of fluoride toothpaste on hand, and start easing everyone back into those regular morning and bedtime routines.

One less thing to think about when September arrives!
