During your hygiene appointment, your dental hygienist will be charting the pocket depth of every tooth. Generally:
🦷 1-3mm means healthy gums, snug around the tooth.
🦷 🦠4mm means there’s early sign of gum irritation and high potential for gingivitis.
🦠🦷🦠 5mm or more means there’s signs of gum infection, gingivitis, and potential periodontitis.
Gum recession leads to bone loss, which eventually leads to tooth loss. Infections in your gums are treatable and preventable. See your dental hygienist regularly so we can prevent that 5,6,7,8 early on!
