Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🧡🍁

We have enjoyed getting out and hiking the last couple of weekends as a family. Here are some photos from the Zoa Peak trail and Mt. Cheam.

Being able to watch the paraglider’s take off and circle around us was such a special treat while on top of Mt. Cheam last weekend. Photos really do not give this hike justice on a clear, sunny, blue-sky day.

This case was a complex one. This patient had a very narrow upper jaw with severe crowding of both the upper and lower teeth. She transferred to Clawson Orthodontics just as expansion was completed. Even with expansion, the crowding was so severe that this patient required extraction of 4 teeth to create enough room to fit the remaining teeth into place, followed by general alignment and vertical elastics to pull the upper and lower teeth into contact with each other.

While extractions are something most orthodontists try to avoid, there are certain circumstances where it must be done. In this case, for instance, trying to fit all the teeth in would have come with a high risk of gum tissue recession; however, the extractions resulted in healthy gum tissue, a nice bite, and a beautiful smile.

A few photos from the long weekend and week off for Dr. Stonecypher!

We had so much fun hiking up Needle peak, skiing on pure glass at Kawkawa lake, paddle boarding and kayaking around the lake, and using the rope swing were just a few of the fun times we had.

This case was a unique one.  The patient’s bite was quite off at the beginning, and it was determined that the cause was the lower jaw not growing forward enough.  The treatment plan included the use of a Bionator appliance, which helps modify the growth of the lower jaw, helping it grow forward and catch up to the upper jaw.  However, the lower jaw could not come forward because the upper front teeth were too crooked. 

A few braces were used to quickly align the upper front teeth, then removed, and the Bionator used to modify the lower jaw growth.  Once the growth was achieved, the patient was transitioned back to braces and the small amount of bite correction still required was finished using elastics.  Not only did the bite improve, but the patient’s profile improved as the lower jaw came forward to a better position, giving better balance to the facial features. 

As a final esthetic touch, the edges of the teeth were carefully smoothed to remove the chips and bumps.  Spectacular! ✨
