Established in 2009 by Dr. Lorraine Thaker, Smilez Dentistry offers a wellness-centered approach to comprehensive dental care. In 1985, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and in 1992, a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. During her university years, Dr. Thaker had the opportunity to take a one-year sabbatical in East Africa for epidemiological studies at the Kenya Medical Research Instit
ute. Immediately after graduation, she bought a private dental clinic in the Hunt Club area of Ottawa and practiced there for 17 years. Aiming for a more balanced lifestyle, she founded Smilez much closer to home and her community in Carleton Place. Continuing education is important to Dr. Thaker, who has studied advanced dentistry at both the Pankey Institute and the Dawson Academy. She has played an active role in founding the Ottawa Women Dentists Study Club (OWDSC) and was recently the Chair of the Continuing Education Committee of the Ottawa Dental Society (ODS). In addition to being a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons (RCDSO), Dr. Thaker is proud to be part of the American Equilibration Society (AES) and the Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics (CARDP). Our knowledgeable, attentive and caring team is comprised of Lynn Fowler (CDR), Annette Prins (CDAII), Julie Sadler (RDH), Caroline Wood-Lyons (RDH) and Robyn Bell (RDH). The clinic has 3 operatories in a circular open concept, a consultation room, an x-ray room and an in-house lab. The circular design reflects our view of dental health as a whole, with the patient as the nucleus.
