Starting the new year feeling grateful for all our patients! Thank you to all who donated their gold/metal restorations to our donation initiative.

For anyone wondering where their restorations went, see below! Proceeds were matched and donated to the following Campbell River and Quadra Island charities:

$3,000 to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation
$1,500 to the Campbell River Hospice Society
$500 to Quadra Circle
$500 to The Campbell River Angel Tree Society
$500 to The Campbell River Community Christmas Hamper

We are so grateful for the generosity of Dr. John Chin from and his wife Jenna Henry, a Speech Language Pathologist at Campbell River Hospital and a long-time supporter of the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.

This year, Pier Street Dental donated $3,000 to the Hospital Foundation, part of a truly meaningful initiative rooted in giving back.

At Pier Street Dental, when Dr. Chin replaces old gold fillings or caps, he gives patients the option to donate the gold to charity. Those donations are collected throughout the year, then sent to be refined, with the proceeds donated to causes that matter most to their family.

In total, they raised $5,000 this year, supporting several local charities that align with their giving priorities, making a real impact right here in our community.

We are pleased to announce that we now accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).

This plan has been introduced in phases through the federal government. To be eligible for the plan, you must have an adjusted family net income under $90,000 per year, and not already have access to a private dental insurance plan. Currently, adults over the age of 65, adults with a valid disability tax credit certificate, and children under the age of 18 are eligible to apply for this plan through the federal government. All remaining eligible residents will be able to apply in 2025.

It is important to note that the CDCP is a dental subsidy, meaning that it does not cover all dental procedures, nor will it cover the entire cost for procedures which are covered under the plan. Patients covered under the plan can expect to have some amount of copayment required at the end of their appointment.

For those of you who are already eligible for the CDCP, please call our office in advance of your appointment to notify our team. Please also remember to bring your CDCP card, as well as your welcome letter from the government to your appointment.

It's been a while since last posting but we're going to try to be more active here. We have some exciting news to share with our community!

We'd like to welcome another dentist to our team - Dr Hannah Kingwell. Dr. Kingwell was born and raised in Vancouver. She began her undergraduate degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax for two years before transferring to the accelerated nursing program at The University of British Columbia. After three years of practicing as a registered nurse at BC Women’s Hospital, she pursued a career in dentistry, graduating from the University of Western Ontario, where she received an award for excellence in oral medicine.

Hannah brings her experience as a registered nurse to the practice of dentistry by ensuring her patients feel relaxed and well cared for.

Hannah and her partner are excited to return to the West Coast and chose Campbell River for its strong sense of community and endless outdoor opportunities. She is very much looking forward to exploring the local mountain biking trails and the ski slopes in the winter. Dr. Kingwell will be working from Monday to Thursday, and will be available select evenings beginning this fall 😀
