Every oral exam is an opportunity to detect something that could save a life. That is not an overstatement. It is what we are trained to do.

Persistent ulcers are never routine. Unexplained lumps, tissue changes, or areas of hardness that were not there before — these deserve a proper evaluation. Dysphagia, hoarseness, and numbness are red flags we take seriously every single time.
High-risk patients are not the only patients at risk. Early detection is not optional. It is our responsibility.
