[ MILLED DENTURES ] Happy Monday friends! We are super excited to share our milled dentures with you guys! The biggest benefit by far is the incredible accuracy and fit. Thanks to VHF and their incredible R5 milling machine!
A digital denture starts with a 3D scan of a mouth or a denture. After the scan is complete, a digital file of the restoration is created and the denture is then milled from just one puck. Best of all, we do this all in house!
There are many benefits to digital dentures. As previously mentioned, they are high esthetic quality and have amazing strength! Additionally, the greatest fear for many denture patients is losing or breaking their dentures, especially while on vacation. With a digital record, we can recreate your denture quickly any time, so you don't have to worry.
Some patients also like the feel and look of their current dentures. We can create an exact copy with brand new materials.

[ VH5 R5 MILLING MACHINE ] We've been quiet on here for some time now, and that's because we've been doing some pretty exciting things! Let us explain.
In the modern dental 🦷 industry, digital dentistry is the future. Over the past few months we have been working hard to learn and develop a digital workflow that would optimize the way we do dentures at YYC Denture Clinic.
We are thrilled to announce that we have been working with .creating.perfection and their state of the art R5 milling machine. The accuracy and design capabilities of this machine are unparalleled!
The learning curve is pretty steep, and while it took us some time to learn the full potential of this machine, we are finally ready to share our achievements!
We'll be posting a few cases we've designed and milled entirely using the R5, in the next few days, so stay tuned.

[ SLEEPING WITH DENTURES? ] A frequently asked question is whether it is better to sleep with dentures in or out?
We recommend that patients take their dentures out at night when they go to sleep, to give their gums a rest.
Studies have shown that wearing dentures at night increases the risk of disease, such as pneumonia. There is also higher risk of gum inflammation, issues with oral hygiene, and tongue plaque. Leaving dentures overnight can lead to bacteria 🦠 build up and issues with infection, so it's best to avoid it if you can.
Remember to always brush and clean your dentures prior to going to sleep. You want to ensure that all plaque or bacteria that is on your denture is removed. An easy denture cleaning routine should consist of the following:

(1) Brushing your dentures to clean them
(2) Soaking your dentures overnight in warm, but not hot, water.
(3) Rinsing your dentures in the morning prior to putting them in your mouth.

[ MY DENTURES WILL LAST FOREVER! ] There are many misconceptions about dentures. One misconception is that dentures will last forever. While dentures are durable, they are not any more permanent than a pair of eyeglasses. Even with proper care, dentures can lose their natural appearance and chewing ability due to brushing and age. They can become warped or dry out if placed in hot water. Dropping them even a few inches can break a tooth or the denture base.
To help increase the lifespan of dentures, try placing them in a container with a denture cleaning solution overnight. Remember that you will still need to brush them. We recommend you use a brush designed for dentures as well as a denture cleaner rather than toothpaste, as it may be too abrasive for dentures.
How do you know when it’s time to replace your dentures? Here are a few signs to keep in mind:
(1) Your Dentures Feel Loose or Are Falling Out
(2) You’re Having Difficulty Speaking Clearly
(3) Your Dentures are Causing You Discomfort
(4) Your Dentures Are Damaged Or Discolored
Most insurance companies as well as the Alberta Dental for Seniors Program cover the replacement of Dentures every 5 years. If you are not sure if your dentures can be repaired, or if you’ll need to replace them with a brand new set, simply give us a call. Our consultations are always FREE.
