Did you know there are different types of dental X-rays? Each type gives your dentist a different view and helps us identify potential problems.

🔹 Panoramic X-ray
Provides a broad view of your teeth, jaws, TMJ joints and sinuses. It can help identify things like impacted teeth, fractures, cysts and bone abnormalities.

🔹 Periapical X-ray
Shows the entire tooth, including the root and surrounding bone. It helps us detect issues below the gumline, such as infections, fractures and bone changes, and is also important when assessing root canals and implants.

🔹 Bitewing X-rays
Give us a detailed look between your teeth and around the bone. They are especially helpful for detecting cavities and monitoring gum health, as well as checking existing fillings and other restorations.

If you wear a dental splint, here are some tips you should be following:

➡ The first couple of nights you have your splint, insert it 20-30 minutes before trying to sleep to allow your mouth to get used to the feeling. Take the splint out if it interrupts sleep and start again the next night.
➡ Rinse your splint in lukewarm water and then clean with a soft toothbrush & non-abrasive toothpaste after every use.
➡ Store it in the breathable container provided. Keep away from dogs as they have been known to use these as chew toys!
➡ Every 2 months, soak for 15-20 minutes in a white vinegar or weak Sodium Hypochlorite solution made from any household bleach at a concentration of 200ppm (approximately 1/2 a teaspoon diluted with water in a bowl). After bleaching, rinse well and clean gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may experience a mild chlorine taste for the next use.
➡ Do not drink coffee, tea or soft drinks with the splint in place.
➡ Always brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before wearing your splint.
➡ Keep on top of your check-ups and cleanings, and be sure to bring your splint with you to your appointments. We provide free, ongoing review and cleaning of your splint.

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged or weakened tooth to protect it, strengthen it and restore its appearance.

At Glenmore Park Dental, getting a new crown typically involves two appointments:

1️⃣ First appointment (about 2 hours)
We prepare the tooth, take scans (which are then sent to the lab), and place a temporary crown while your permanent crown is being made.

2️⃣ Second appointment (about 1 hour)
We remove the temporary crown, check the fit and appearance of your new crown, make any necessary adjustments, and securely place it.

Your new crown is designed to look, feel and function much like a natural tooth.

Whether you need a crown because of decay, a fracture, a root canal or an old crown that needs replacing, our team is here to help restore your smile.
