🪥 Your dentist and dental hygienist are in a unique position to detect abnormalities in the head and neck region, including potential thyroid issues, during routine examinations.
During a standard head and neck assessment, Dr. Dirk Thompson identified a 1.6 cm thyroid nodule in a patient who had not previously noticed the lump. Note the location of the thyroid gland is just above the patient’s collar bone and this lump could only be felt/seen when swallowing. The patient was promptly advised to see her physician, where further evaluation and biopsy fortunately confirmed the lesion was benign.
This is a powerful reminder of the importance of regular dental check-ups. Early detection can make all the difference - not just for oral health, but for your overall well-being.
