Summary – Toronto Star, October 29, 2025: “Missing teeth linked to health risk”
Losing Teeth Could Cost You More Than Your Smile

Missing Teeth = Bigger Health Risks

A new Statistics Canada study delivers a wake-up call: Canadians with missing teeth are much more likely to be hospitalized — especially for heart and lung diseases.
Those with:

1–4 missing teeth → 44% higher chance of ending up in the hospital

5+ missing teeth → 76% higher overall risk and 120% higher risk for heart-related illness

Experts warn that untreated gum disease lets dangerous bacteria invade the bloodstream — silently fueling diabetes, heart disease, and systemic inflammation.

Your mouth isn’t separate from your body — it’s the gateway to your health. Protect it before small problems turn into life-changing consequences.

Phenotype Modification: Periodontal Soft tissue phenotype modification refers to augmenting periodontium by increasing the thickness of gingiva and the width of the keratinized tissue. The treatment involves free gingival graft or a connective tissue graft.
* Improves outcome during orthodontic treatment meaning safe tooth movement.
* Prevent or manage gingival recession.
* Enhance tissue resilience: Thicker tissues are more resistant to trauma and inflammation.
* Improve aesthetic outcomes and help maintain facial bone thickness.
