Making the Screw-in Prosthesis Installation System Safer (611)

Did you know that the legacy screw-in system of prosthesis installation is fatally flawed and that the only ones who seem not to know or acknowledge this problem are dentists? The dental industry has dumbed down the screw-in system to make treatment easier, at times resulting in peri-implant disease and early treatment failure. Implant-abutment and abutment-prosthesis misfits and poor access to care are known risk factors for disease. While the dental industry purports to support the dentist’s efforts to deliver safer treatment, it is reluctant to disclose critical information. How can dentists choose the best products for their patients if they do not know the tolerances of the implant parts they buy? Why do implant sellers not inform dentists about specific risk factors for complications inherent to their installation instructions? How can implant manufacturers and sellers expect dentists to be able to provide their patients with an adequate informed consent process without disclosing expected side effects? Indeed, to sell more implants, industry leaders work very hard to promote and encourage dentists to initiate treatments with huge risks of catastrophic failure. Hey, no problem for them, as disappointed patients will sue their dentists for treatment complications, not those promoting their faulty treatment systems.
Learning Objectives:
Learn to identify the root causes of misfit joints and how the dental industry tries to disguise them; learn how misfits put implants at risk of breakage.
Learn why larger prosthetic systems cause 15 times the rate of peri-implantitis than smaller ones; learn how to reduce the risk of catastrophic treatment failure.
Learn how to optimize the fit of connections, improve access to care, and achieve passive prosthesis installation for the first time.
