How to care for your baby's teeth and gums 👶

Baby gums and teeth should be cleaned after every feeding, especially once they have started teething. Baby teeth should be cleaned (without toothpaste) or brushed regularly with warm water.

If an infant toothbrush is too big for your child, use a clean, damp cloth to wipe their teeth and gums.

It is recommended that babies have their first dental visit around their first birthday. Call us today to book their first appointment!

Has your child lost a clear aligner tray? 😯

While looking for their missing aligner, let them temporarily wear their previous set to prevent their teeth from drifting out of alignment.

If you haven’t found their aligner in a reasonable time, give us a call or email us to get a replacement.

Growing kids love snacks, and they need them too! 🍎

Here are a few smart ways to keep snack time healthy:

- Limit how often your child has sugary foods and drinks throughout the day
- Water is always the best choice between meals
- Offer healthier snacks that are also great for their teeth, such as hard cheeses, apple, celery sticks, and yogurt

Small habits make a big difference!

May flowers are blooming 🌺, which means allergy season is here.

A common symptom of allergies is congestion. Nasal congestion can cause your child to breathe through their mouth more often than through their nose. This can increase the chances of dry mouth. Antihistamines are also known to have a side effect of dry mouth.

To avoid dry mouth, remind your child to drink water and stay hydrated this season to reduce the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath!

After a dental cleaning, here are a few small steps to help your child keep their mouth comfortable and protect the benefits of the visit.

💡 It’s normal for gums to feel a bit sensitive, especially if there is plaque buildup or early signs of gingivitis. If your child had a fluoride treatment, most dentists recommend waiting 30 minutes before eating or drinking.

💡 Start with soft foods if their gums are tender and avoid very hot, cold, or crunchy foods for a few hours if there’s sensitivity. Skip sticky or sugary treats the same day to help the fluoride do its job.

💡 Continue brushing that night, but be gentle around the gums. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Floss as usual unless the dentist advises otherwise.

A professional cleaning is a great reset; encourage brushing twice daily and limit sugary snacks to prevent cavities and other conditions.
