Yesterday I had the pleasure of providing dental cleanings to a couple living at Harmony Hill Retirement Community. This was their second dental cleaning visit with me using the government CDCP insurance benefit. Access to dental care can be very difficult; Lynette can ease that burden with at home visits. The link between oral health and heart disease. Poor oral health, including gum disease, causes bacteria to grow in our mouths. These germs can enter our bloodstream and travel to other parts of our body, risking our systemic health in the process.

When bacteria from our mouth reaches our heart, they can cause inflammation. Oral bacteria has been linked to dangerous conditions affecting cardiovascular and brain health.

Inflammation from dental bacteria can lead to infections of the heart lining, called endocarditis.
Oral bacteria can lead to clogged arteries and heart attacks.
Dental disease can also increase an adult’s risk of having a stroke. Improving and maintaining our oral health with thorough home care; brushing and flossing, and visits to your dental professional which may include an independent registered dental hygienist will help to decrease the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Oral health plays a key role in our overall health. Regular dental cleanings are part of a healthy lifestyle. If you have no access to dental coverage you may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. If you have already received your benefit card you can book a dental cleaning with LG Mobile Dental Services. Check the Canada.ca website for more information; if your household income is less than $90000, you are over 65 years of age, under 18 years of age or hold a disability tax credit certificate you may qualify.

Lynette came to my mother’s long-term care facility and did a thorough and professional examination of her mouth and gently cleaned her teeth and dentures. My mother has been afraid to seek dental care for some time but Lynette’s encouragement and praise, coupled with her approachable manner, completely won her confidence. We’ll be scheduling regular
