As an orthodontist, I recommend that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7, in line with the guidance of the American Association of Orthodontists.

At this age, I can assess how your child’s jaws and teeth are developing and identify any potential concerns with jaw growth, tooth eruption, crowding, or bite development.

An early evaluation does not mean your child needs braces. In many cases, no treatment is needed right away. Instead, I may simply recommend monitoring your child’s growth and dental development so that, if treatment becomes necessary, we can determine the ideal time to begin.

Early evaluation gives us the opportunity to identify concerns early and, when appropriate, plan ahead for the healthiest and most predictable outcome.
