An important part of your baby's development is when her teeth come in😌
Babies are born with all their undeveloped teeth in their jaws. When they are ready, they push through the gums.

✅When your baby is between four to six months, the first tooth may begin to appear. Every child is different, but usually, the first teeth to come in are located in the top and bottom front of their mouth. Signs that your baby is teething can include fussiness, drooling, lack of sleep, or loss
of appetite🤔

Most children have their full set of 20 baby teeth in place by age 3. Adult teeth start to appear around age 6✅

Take care of your child`s teeth to keep them healthy to adult life🦷😉

Struggling with bleeding gums?😟 The cause may be something simple, like using the wrong technique when you brush or floss. Or it could be a sign of a health condition you need to check out❗

You may have bleeding gums if you:
🔹Have gingivitis, a disease that causes inflammation of the gums
🔹Brush too hard, or your toothbrush isn't soft enough
🔹Just started a flossing routine, and your gums aren't used to it yet
🔹Take certain medications, like blood thinners
🔹Have inflamed gums because you're pregnant (pregnancy gingivitis)
🔹Have dentures that don't fit well
🔹Had faulty dental restorations
🔹 Lack Vitamins K, C
🔹 Have certain disease (like diabetes, leukemia, or hemophilia)

If your gums are bleeding, visit your dentist to discover the cause and prevent any complications😌

Bad breath can come from many different sources and cause inconvenience. Most everyday bad breath can be controlled by following some simple steps:
✅ Floss - flossing removes food particles from between the teeth eliminating an element of 'bad breath'
✅ Brush your teeth after every meal – brushing will clean the surface of your teeth and gums eliminating bad breath causing bacteria and prolonging the life of your teeth.
✅ Scrub your tongue –more than half of the bacteria that cause bad breath can be found on your tongue
✅ Keep your mouth moist – avoid sugary beverages, but be sure to drink a lot of water. Aside from being good for hydration, the water acts to flush your mouth of the bacteria that cause bad breath.
✅ Visit your dentist regularly - aside from keeping your teeth in top shape, your dentist can look for signs of periodontal disease and other treatable causes of halitosis.
If your bad breath persists even after good oral hygiene, there are special products your dentist may prescribe after an appointment (you can book a consultation on the website).
We'd be happy to give you some "fresh" oral hygiene tips.)😌

A regular dental check up is important because they help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You should have a regular dental visit at least every 6 months or as recommended by your dental professional.
What happens at your dental visit?
There are 2 parts to a regular dental visit – check up, or examination and the cleaning, or oral prophylaxis.
At the dental check up your dental professional will check for cavities. The exam will also include a check for plaque and tartar on your teeth. Plaque is a clear, sticky layer of bacteria. You cannot remove tartar with brushing and flossing. If plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, they can cause oral diseases.
✅Next, your gums will be checked. This will be done with a special tool to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. With healthy gums, the spaces are shallow. When people have gum disease, the spaces may become deeper.
The check-up should also include a careful examination of your tongue, throat, face, head, and neck. This is to look for any signs of trouble - swelling, redness, or possible signs of cancer.

When you brush your teeth, do it the right way😁

Most of us are sure that our brushing technique is flawless. But, is it?😏

Read the brushing recommendations from the Canadian Dental Association and check whether you give your teeth teeth the proper care😉

Step 1️⃣
Brush at a 45 degree angle to your teeth. Direct the bristles to where your gums and teeth meet. Use a gentle, circular, massaging motion, up and down. Don't scrub. Gums that recede visibly are often a result of years of brushing too hard.

Step 2️⃣
Clean every surface of every tooth. The chewing surface, the cheek side, and the tongue side.

Step 3️⃣
Don't rush your brush. A thorough brushing should take at least two to three minutes. Try timing yourself 🕗

Step 4️⃣
Change your usual brushing pattern. Most people brush their teeth the same way all the time. That means they miss the same spots all the time. Try reversing your usual pattern.

Step 5️⃣
Use a soft brush with rounded bristles. The right toothbrush cleans better. Choose a size and shape that allow you to reach all the way to your back teeth.
CDA recommends you replace your toothbrush every three months😌

Which food can cause tooth decay?🦷

Sugary food and drinks are one of the main causes of tooth decay.
Acid is produced when the bacteria in your mouth break down the sugar. The acid dissolves the tooth surface, which is the first stage of tooth decay.

Some sugars occur naturally in food and drink, such as fruit, honey and milk. The naturally occurring sugar in dried fruit, such as raisins, dates and apricots, can also contribute to tooth decay.

Other foods have sugar added to them by the manufacturer, which is sometimes called processed food.
These may include:
• cakes and biscuits
• soft drinks such as cola as well as fruit juice
• sweets and chocolate
• flavoured milks and yoghurts
• sugary breakfast cereals and cereal bars
• jams
• fruit canned in syrup
• sauces and syrups, such as some pasta sauces, marinades and ketchup

Which type of Floss Should You Choose?

Your dentist has recommended that you floss daily. Sounds simple enough, right?😏 That is until you get to the store and find yourself staring at dozens of different types of floss😆

To make a choice simpler, decide on:

🔹 Multifilament or monofilament floss

Multifilament is generally the least expensive but here's a chance of shredding in case your teeth are tightly spaced.

In contrast, the monofilament floss is more resistant to shredding, and its texture is usually softer.

🔹 Width
Choose the width of the floss according to the spaces between your teeth.

🔹 Flavour
Find your favourite flavour (such as mint or cinnamon) for an extra level of freshness.

🔹 "Super Floss"
Consider getting a "Super floss," which comes in pre-cut lengths with one end stiffened for more comfortable use on braces, bridges, and other dental appliances.

🔹 Dental Tape or Ribbon
This type of floss is a wide, flat ribbon of plastic that comes waxed and un-waxed. This is the right choice if you have sensitive gums.

🔹 Woven floss
The texture of woven floss is softer, easier to grip and less likely to slip through the fingers. Usually, it can be more difficult to find than other types.

🔹 Floss holders
The holders make it easier to handle the floss, especially when cleaning the back teeth.

🔹 Disposable floss picks
This type is available for single use and commonly has a shorter handle than with reusable holders.

Choosing the right type of dental floss may seem exhausting, but it's simple once you understand the features and benefits of each😌 Choose your favourite floss and incorporate it into your daily routine to keep your smile healthy😄

The team of MySmile Centres is always there for you💙 If you need help with choosing the best floss, don't hesitate to ask our dentists during the appointment🙂
