You brush your child’s teeth every night. You look inside their mouth. Everything looks perfectly fine…
So what exactly are we looking for at a dental check-up? 👀
A LOT more than you might think.
Some dental problems simply cannot be identified by a parent looking inside their child’s mouth at home.
During an examination, our team may be assessing:
🦷 Early signs of tooth decay
🪥 Gum health
🌱 How permanent teeth are developing and erupting
😁 Bite and alignment
🔍 Areas between teeth that are difficult to see
👅 Oral habits and function
✨ Changes that need to be monitored over time
And when clinically necessary, diagnostic tools such as digital X-rays allow us to gather information about areas we cannot fully evaluate just by looking.
That’s why “everything looks fine” is wonderful, but it doesn’t replace an examination. 💙
Pediatric dentistry is often about finding the things that aren’t obvious yet.
Because when we identify a concern earlier, we may have more options for managing it before it becomes a much bigger issue.
📅 Keep your child’s regular examinations on the calendar, even when their smile looks perfect from the outside. 😁💙
