Brighter in days, not months. 🦷✨

The Philips Sonicare Teeth Whitening Advanced is clinically proven to whiten your smile by up to 5 shades. The dentist-developed gel works below the surface to lift years of stains from coffee, wine, and more — with first results in as little as 3 days and full results after about 9 days.

That means a noticeably brighter smile in time for your next summer event, all from the comfort of home.

What should you do first: floss or brush?

This is one of the most common dental questions, and the answer may surprise you. Research suggests that flossing first, then brushing, may be more effective.

Here is why: Flossing removes food particles and plaque from between your teeth. When you brush afterward, the fluoride from your toothpaste can reach those newly cleaned spaces more easily.

That said, the most important thing is that you do both consistently, twice a day.

Whether you floss first or brush first, consistency matters more than sequence. Find a routine that works for you and stick with it.

Pregnancy brings many changes to your body, including your oral health.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause gum inflammation, a condition called pregnancy gingivitis. Your gums may become swollen, tender, or bleed more easily when you brush or floss.

This happens because increased hormone levels make your gums more sensitive to plaque. If left untreated, pregnancy gingivitis can develop into more serious gum disease.

The good news? Dental care during pregnancy is safe and important. Regular checkups and cleanings help keep your gums healthy. We recommend scheduling a checkup during each trimester.

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, let us know so we can provide the best care for you and your baby.

Thumb sucking is common in young children, but it can become a problem if it continues too long.

Most children stop thumb sucking on their own between ages two and four. However, if the habit continues past age five or six, it can affect tooth alignment, jaw development, bite issues, and even speech.

Prolonged thumb sucking can push the front teeth forward or create an open bite, where the top and bottom teeth do not meet properly when the mouth is closed.

If your child is still thumb sucking past age four, positive encouragement can help them stop.

We are happy to discuss with you any concerns about your child's thumb sucking habit or teeth development at your next visit.

One of the most common questions we hear: Are dental X-rays safe?

The short answer is yes. Modern digital X-rays use minimal radiation and are considered very safe.

Digital X-rays expose you to about 80% less radiation than traditional film X-rays. The amount of radiation is comparable to what you are naturally exposed to in everyday life over a few days.

We also take safety measures like using lead aprons and limiting X-rays to only what is necessary for diagnosis.

Why do we take X-rays? Because they allow us to see problems that are not visible during a regular exam, like cavities between teeth, bone loss, infections, and impacted teeth. Detecting these issues early helps prevent bigger problems later.

If you have concerns about X-rays, we are happy to discuss them with you.

Cleaning your retainer properly keeps it fresh and free from bacteria buildup.

Here is what NOT to do:

❌ Do not use hot water (it can warp the retainer)
❌ Do not use toothpaste (it can scratch the surface)

Here is the right way to clean your retainer:

1. Rinse your retainer with cool water after each use
2. Brush it gently with a soft toothbrush and mild soap
3. Use a retainer cleaning solution like DentalPod by Zima for deeper sanitization
4. Store it in a clean, dry case when not in use

DentalPod cleaning solution and storage systems are available at our office. If you have questions about retainer care, our team is happy to help.

Lip health and oral health are more connected than most people realize.

Dry, cracked lips can lead to infections or sores. Chronic lip licking makes dryness worse and can cause irritation. Sun exposure without protection can damage delicate lip tissue over time.

Here are a few simple steps to protect your lips:

💧 Stay hydrated
☀️ Use lip balm with SPF when outdoors
🚫 Avoid licking your lips
👀 Watch for sores or lesions that do not heal within two weeks

If you notice any concerning changes to your lips or mouth, contact our office for an evaluation.

Cavities can develop in young children, even in baby teeth.

Early childhood caries often starts when children are exposed to sugary drinks in sippy cups or bottles, especially at bedtime. The sugar sits on teeth for hours, creating the perfect environment for decay.

Here are a few ways to protect your child's teeth:

🦷 Avoid putting your child to bed with a bottle of milk, juice, or formula
🦷 Limit sugary drinks and snacks between meals
🦷 Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears
🦷 Schedule your child's first dental visit by age one or when their first tooth comes in

Early prevention protects your child's smile and sets the foundation for lifelong oral health.
