Sometimes, it’s not about changing your smile. It’s about seeing more of the smile you remember.

This is a story of a lovely patient who required a two-year journey to restore her smile's function and aesthetics. When she was younger, she naturally showed much more of her teeth when she smiled. Over time, that changed—and she began to notice that her teeth were no longer as visible as they once were.

Understanding what a patient notices about their own smile is often the starting point. From there, it’s about looking closely, understanding why things have changed, and finding an approach that feels right for them. Because sometimes, the best outcome isn’t a different smile. It’s a smile that feels more like you.

Our patient had been dealing with complications due to failing restorations and functional problems for a few years. There was a history of gum disease that needed to be addressed.

Her number one priority was having healthy, functional teeth. The second priority was to show more of her teeth in her smile as when she was younger. Some of this related to lip dynamics and we wanted to lengthen the teeth to create a better display in her smile. We knew we had to address this alongside the restorative treatments she needed. The gum tissues needed to be treated.

The gum treatments including implant placements, were performed by . Implants restored the back teeth to full function. We decided to lengthen the teeth and open the bite to allow the longer teeth to function well for the patient.

One challenge in this case was managing a dark front tooth that already had an old crown. The underlying tooth structure and the root were so dark that the darkness showed through, even with an opaque layered buildup. The adjacent tooth received a much thinner porcelain veneer, which made shade matching challenging. To correct this issue, we chose to fabricate a Zirconia coping with a ceramic veneer similar in shape to the adjacent lithium disilicate veneer.

The shade matching including translucency is great (ceramics by ) and our patient is happy to finally see her teeth again when she smiles.

Dr. Pasha Nasirzadeh and our team at Wellington Aurora Dental appreciate this quote. Change is essential for improvement and growth. We also believe that sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

In this patient's case, we changed the alignment and shape of their two teeth with ceramic veneers.

This patient sought treatment because they were unhappy with the chipping and shape and size of the lateral incisors. Their teeth were smaller than they wished and didn't align with their two front teeth.

We changed the shape of the teeth with minimally invasive ceramic veneers to address our patient's concerns about their smile. No colour changes were required in addition to the patient's bleaching trays completed in the comfort of their own home.

Some family traditions have a beautiful way of anchoring us.

Dr. Pasha's family once again headed out to Rose Family Farm for their annual strawberry picking tradition.

"There is something incredibly grounding about escaping into the rows, enjoying the fresh air, and watching the kids hunt for the perfect, brightest berries.

I find these annual milestones a helpful reminder for us to slow down and appreciate the growth and change happening around us.

Just like a great smile makeover, a lasting family tradition requires time, care, and a dedication to nurturing something beautiful from the roots up. We returned home with baskets full of fresh berries and a lot of sweet memories."

The difference? It's all in the fit.

This patient came to us after undergoing a dental bonding procedure elsewhere. She was unhappy with the results and described being only loosely consulted during the process.

Her prior procedure hadn’t been completed properly and appeared rushed, with bulky restorations causing irritation and bleeding at the gumline. Beyond the discomfort, her primary concern was the shape of her restorations. Her smile had changed in ways that felt unnatural. She liked the shape of her original teeth, but her new tooth profile didn’t sit well with her. She felt like she’d had no input on the final results.

After several discussions, we decided to remove the existing resin and evaluate the underlying tooth structure. Once her gums had healed from the inflammation, she had the option to try again with direct bonding or explore ceramic veneers. After reviewing the pros and cons, she chose direct bonding, with a shape closer to her natural teeth. To help approximate this shape, she shared photos of her smile before her initial bonding work had been done.

The first step was to remove the resin from the original procedure and polish the teeth. She had some teeth whitening done while we allowed for the tissues to heal. A beautiful wax work up of her new smile was then created by Jim Globocki from Perfect Smiles Dental Lab, a critical step that had been missing from her earlier experience. After some modifications, she approved the work-up. We then duplicated the prototype in her own teeth.

The full treatment took approximately four weeks across three appointments. The consultation process took two appointments, with the restorations completed in a single visit.

This past weekend Dr. Pasha had the opportunity to spend two days learning from world-renowned dental educators during the Bio-Emulation Symposium in Paris. Here's what Dr. Pasha would like to share about the experience:

Attending the Bio-Emulation Symposium is one of the ways I've committed myself to professional growth and development. It was an inspiring and motivating couple of days surrounded by leaders in Bio-Emulation. The information shared will continue to help our team provide Bio-Emulation core values for our patients: replicating the natural structure and function of teeth through minimally invasive dental protocols.
