Lockdown in Hamilton starts today with the province-wide lockdown to start on December 26th. This will be in effect for 28 days in Southern Ontario.

Can I have my dental hygiene appointment during a lockdown? YES, the lockdown will not affect the provision of dental hygiene services.

According to the most recent Directive from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Public Health & the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, Regulated Health Professionals are ALLOWED to operate under the provincial framework. As a Registered Independent Dental Hygienist I can continue to provide dental hygiene services.

Our office has worked hard throughout this pandemic to ensure that we are following the highest level of guidelines & protocols to serve you in the most responsible and safe manner. Your health & safety as well as our team members is of utmost importance. All current CDHO guidance remains in effect as well as guidance from the Ministry of Health and Public Health of Ontario for the provision of care. Here are some of the enhanced infection control measures that we have implemented since our re-opening in June.

▪️structural changes to our operatories to create fully enclosed rooms
▪️Medical Grade Air Purification units in each of our operatories and reception area
▪️use of High Volume Evacuation (HVE) to reduce aerosols
▪️plexiglass barriers at the front desk
▪️additional protective equipment that our staff will be wearing
▪️ reading material and toys will no longer be available
▪️ increase frequency of cleaning and disinfection of high-touch areas (ie. door handles/knobs, light switches, seats in reception area, etc.)
▪️ separate entry and exit doors with signage for one way travel
▪️ screening questions over the phone prior to your appointment
▪️ NEW CHECK IN PROCESS: we will be utilizing a Curbside Waiting Room to limit the number of people in the office at one time. The front door will be locked. Please let us know when you arrive (call/text/knock) and wear your own mask. Upon entry we will complete a wellness check, sanitize your hands and take your temperature.
▪️ appointments will be managed to allow for proper infection control as well as physical distancing between clients.
▪️individuals accompanying you will have to wait outside the office unless absolutely required (ie. a parent accompanying a young child or a client who requires accommodation)

We will continue to monitor for any developments should they arise and provide updates as they become available.

Social media can be very influential on society in both positive and negative ways. Recently, there are warnings over dangerous & harmful DIY beauty trends on TikTok including teeth whitening. Be wary of what you see on all social media platforms!

“DIY beauty trends popular on TikTok could be dangerous and harmful, healthcare groups have warned.

Examples include applying bleach to whiten teeth, removing moles at home, and using eyelash glue to make lips appear larger, BBC News has discovered.

When these videos went viral, they encouraged others to copy the so-called “beauty hacks”, which could cause permanent harm, the groups warned.

TikTok told BBC News the videos did not violate its community guidelines.”-BBC

Teenagers have posted videos of supposed teeth-whitening, lip-plumping and mole-removal tips.

We are excited to start welcoming back our clients to the office. Your safety as well as our team members is of utmost importance. Close to midnight on May 26, 2020 the Health Minister of Ontario and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario have given us the green light to re-open. However, we must adhere to certain strict guidelines which were only communicated to us on May 22, 2020. We will continue to be temporarily closed until further notice.

As we plan for our re-opening the safety of our clients and team members is of utmost importance. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

You will see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our clients and staff. These include structural changes to our operatories to create fully enclosed rooms, Medical Grade Air Purification units in each of our operatories and reception area, use of High Volume Evacuation (HVE) to reduce aerosols, plexiglass barriers at the front desk, additional protective equipment that our staff will be wearing and many others.

There will be certain protocols that we must follow to limit the number of people in the office at one time. Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between clients.

Prior to your appointment, our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions over the phone. Upon arrival for your appointment further screening will take place before the start of any dental hygiene treatment.

These changes and other important information have been communicated through email to our valued clients.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, every client and team member safe in our practice. Please feel free to reach out as we are returning calls and emails daily. We will be in touch shortly as we are working diligently to create a safe environment for you and our team members.

We truly thank you for your patience and choosing us for your dental hygiene needs. We look forward to welcoming back our clients, neighbors and friends and aim to provide the highest level of care in the safest environment possible.
