Many airway, breathing, and facial development issues don’t start in adulthood — they start early in life. The good news? When we recognize the signs early, we have a powerful opportunity to guide healthy development.

Pediatricians, pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, and other healthcare providers are often the first line of defense. Because they see children regularly during critical growth years, they are uniquely positioned to notice signs like:
• Mouth breathing
• Poor tongue posture
• Sleep disturbances
• Altered facial growth patterns

As often emphasized in airway medicine, early recognition and intervention can change a child’s developmental trajectory.

That’s why education and screening are so important.

If you’re a healthcare provider who wants to better understand how to screen for airway and functional concerns, our Breathe Course teaches simple, practical screening tools you can start using right away.

It’s startling but true — up to half of adults have undiagnosed airway problems affecting sleep, energy, mood, and even long-term health.

Snoring, daytime fatigue, headaches, or restless sleep aren’t just “normal adult things.” They can be signs of chronic upper airway obstruction that’s been quietly shaping your metabolism, heart, and brain for years.

If you’re noticing any of these signs, it’s worth getting checked—because early intervention matters at any age.

CPAP failure isn’t a patient problem.
It’s a model problem.

When 30 to 50 percent of people cannot tolerate CPAP, it tells us we are managing airflow at night without addressing why the airway collapses in the first place.

Poor tongue posture, orofacial muscle dysfunction, nasal resistance, tonsils, adenoids, craniofacial restriction and other physical obstructions matter. They shape the airway 24 hours a day, not just during sleep.

Treating pressure without correcting structure and function guarantees poor adherence.

Address causes first.
Support with devices second.
